And consider that a significant portion of that road funding goes to roads that cyclists can't or won't use.

Most of the roads cyclists use are mostly funded by sales, income and property taxes.

Bike riders are a life insurer's worst nightmare.

We refer to bike riders as organ donors in healthcare. They have single handily provided more organ donations that any other group. Good and bad, I guess.

Unless there's a lot of cyclists riding around on one kidney, I'm gonna call ********. <1k cyclist deaths/yr and >18k organ donors/yr doesn't seem to support that.

I also think its a really bad idea to put a frail human body and bike out in the traffic lanes. The law says bikes have the right to be on the road. Then so be it.

Someone hits a bike rider on the road and its going to be a expensive mess, not to mention that the automobile driver has to live with the result of hitting a bike rider. My main issue is wondering why so many if not most bike riders make so little effort to be seen. So many are wearing clothes that do not stand out and lights or reflectors that are useless. I see a few around here wearing bright colors and with incredibly bright lights on their bike. I really appreciate their effort to make the road safer.

I really like that idea from some above that bike riders should be insured. Same as auto would be nice.

We had an eye surgeon friend that would often be called Sat evenings out to collect eyes for transplanting.
He also mentioned that motor cycles accidents were their main organ sources.

Nephew was telling me on his way home from work last night could see bright blinking lights ahead and when he got up to them found it was a guy riding a bike at 12:30 AM. At least the guy was visible, but who would be expecting a bike at that time of the morning.

This discussion is about bicycles... the type with pedals to make it move, and which many ride to stay in shape.
The only “cyclists” I’ve heard referred as organ donors have two or more cylinders for power, tend to twist a throttle to make their machine go, and are commonly referred to as “bikers”.

Always remember on our honeymoon the time when a LEO was actually parked inside of a huge semi van to catch speeders.
Naturally just where a narrow 2 lane opened up to a nice 4 lane.
Fine was reasonable but they demanded a large security deposit for the trial date a month down the road.
That was a costly honeymoon.

Ditto here. I also recall a time... back in the days when I travelled with a beer between my legs I was on an obscure back road late at night and rolled through a stop. Suddenly headlights appeared and the blues came on... He’d been parked next to a closed convenience store. I thought it was a sure fire ticket on the way, but apparently I had a taillight out. (Standard excuse for a drink test.)
5 minutes later I was on my way with a(nother) defect card over my visor.
