Yeah, I love my diesel tractor and other diesel powered stuff. Starts right up. Except when it's real cold. Then I have to use the block heater. But that's no big deal, just hafta remember to plug it in. Sure hope that ice storm doesn't knock out the power like it did last winter. I guess I hoped in vain, the power just went out. Well, at least I have my gas generator. Hafta make sure I put in ethanol free gas last time I filled the tank. But if I forget I think there is some sort of additive I can use that will prevent all the problems associated with ethanol in fuel. But wait! I have that diesel powered generator and it usually starts without needing the block heater plugged in. Cool. Oh no! My fuel is gelled! Now I hafta add some stuff to keep the fuel from gelling. Crap, it gets worse. Not only is the diesel gelled but it also has become infected with some sort of biological stuff, now the tank is full of some sort of sort of slime! No problem, I'm sure I can buy some stuff to pour into the tank to kill the biologics. Well, got the stuff killed but now I need to replace filters and bleed the system. And it's freezing out!

If one is as ill prepared as this post indicates, then perhaps one should remain in the city. But if all else fails, and your power goes out, you can always plug in your electric generator. :p

Being in the city is no assurance power will remain on... days without power last year when utilities cut power in the interest of wildfire prevention.

I had the ONLY generator in a several block radius which was pressed into service providing lights and refrigeration for 4 homes... sure glad I had my 10ga extension cords in the truck.

That said by the end of last year almost all now have generators but so far not needed this year.

From 1 to now 25? is very significant...

Sadly none are as quiet as my trusty Honda EM5000

Most sound like lawn mowers and are very thirsty.

No worries though the ban on generators is in the works...

Solar Cells and Tesla Power Walls the answer.

I've always lo
We have a 50" plasma TV that consumes 600 watts when it's on. It actually heats half of the living room in winter. You can stand in front of it to get warm! Since my wife is now working from home, and I turn it on at 6pm through usually midnight, it's on for close to 10 hours per day. It's like having a blow dryer running on low for 10 hours. I'm looking for a newer TV that consumes way less power. Like about 1/5 of the power or less.

Also, the picture quality of old TVs (CRT) is a no go for me anymore. Also, the aspect ratio is horrible. You're missing a lot of the picture (no pun intended) that the director meant you to see. It's cutting off the sides.

With that said, I'd put it in the back of an 80's Cutlass wagon and park it in the barn... :p

Speaking of that, what model 80's car do you have? You always seem to have an interesting specimen. (y)
I've always loved Vista Cruisers... maybe one day?

Had a Cutlass Vista Cruiser with a 454 when gas went to 70 cents a gallon and had to give it away...

Moss... that TV is 6 kW per day but since it is entertainment and heater it pencils out.

2400 square feet 1950's split level with 1960, 70 and 80's appliances and original aluminum single pane casement window and average year round kW use is 12 per day... gas water and heat...

This thread is interesting... So many people fighting change. Guess what grasshopper, change is the only constant!

Meanwhile, I came here as the result of a search trying to find an electric tractor because I WANT ONE.

I have two acres that I take care of with a Simplicity Legacy that's 23 years old and has gotten to the point where it requires more work to keep running than I'm willing to put into it. Meanwhile, I began collecting electric tools and vehicles 7 years ago... The Legacy is the last thing I own that's gas powered, and I can't wait to replace it with something electric.

Even though this is proposed in NM, I can’t see it passing. Too many small market farms/gardens in this state.

All this pro-electricity,, anti-electricity,, go look at the cost per KW thread,,
Some people pay less than $0.05 per KW,, others pay over $0.25 per KW,,
Therein lies the problem,,

Move us all to Universal Electric Care,, and we will all be on the electric bandwagon.

Until the UEC bill is passed, the people that pay over $0.25 per KW will continue to be anti-pluggers,,,

I have to wonder what kind of shape we'll all be when all gasoline powered items such as cars, mowers, etc. are converted to electric. Our electric power grid seems so vulnerable that one little hitch and we'll all be totally powerless.

And how about the cost of replacing the batteries on electric cars, trucks, tractors, etc.. Or, is everything going to become disposable once the original batteries die?

What the heck is this some other new fangled socialist type plan???
Never heard of it and don't like the idea.

You are talking a small garden tractor,
the Electric powered lawn tractor was available several decades ago.
Go get you a GE Elect Trac and restore and use it.
If you really want one or are you just making electric power noise.

Replacement batteries already an issue on some early models...

Prices quoted when car new are not the reality but availability is the real issue from an early Nissan adopter...
