Get credit monitoring reports that will notify you if any new accounts are opened in her SSN. That's usually the biggest risk and easiest way for the thieves to get money. They open accounts at stores and purchase a few thousand in merchandise and then move on. It makes a mess for the person who's SSN was used.

For you more savvy guys -
If I put a freeze on my credit, with all 3 agencies, would it stop that?

Yes- that will lock it down so nothing NEW can be opened.

Temporary freeze on the accounts prevents anyone from buying products on credit (like a car). When you do freeze the accounts at each bureau, don't forget to make a note of the password or process or questions they will ask when you need to temp. open it. Any purchase that requires a credit check will be denied without the information or passcode to unfreeze. Sorry you are having to deal with type of problem. But after taking steps, you may not have any trouble from it. Hope not. Best Wishes

Eddie - I got the paycheck loan alert from LifeLock at 12:10 one night and it had the suggested steps for the credit freeze in the app as well as links to each agency. I was able to freeze all agencies as well as ChexSystem within 20 minutes. But I never saw anywhere that they communicated the freeze to each other. It won't take long to do, but I suggest you go to each website and make sure each agency is frozen. This is so common that it is right on the front page for each one like a convivence lane.

I don't think they do. You have to initiate a freeze at each of the 3.

Yes, call all 3 major credit places and FREEZE them . . . I had to do the same for a different situation.

At this point there really isn't much reason that anyone DOESN'T do this. It's pretty easy to do and very easy to do a temp unfreeze when you need it. Unless you're at a point in your life where you are opening accounts and/or applying for credit very frequently just freeze things as a precaution.

I just googled her, and watched a clip of her making some chocolate chip cookies. They look really good, so I "Followed" her on FB. My wife loves to cook and experiment with new ideas!!!

We're not fans of Skirto, so we watch KETK instead. It's all about the weatherman!!!

She cooks on Tuesdays during the 11:30 am show And Fridays during the 5:30 pm show. But she cooks daily for me. I like to eat.

This ^^^. And you need to ask which of the three credit bureaus they will be checking and ask that they delay their check until you can thaw (unfreeze) your file. I’ve gotten some puzzled or suspicious looks when I ask that. A temporary thaw can be requested to last for a time period you choose then it will automatically close again. I usually chose a few days.

Is she a member of AARP? I think they have help for ID Theft issues. She might also check her homeowners insurance they may have a rider for that.
