Reversing gear on a steam loco is a long word I'm not going to bugger up but you can reverse any engine that has it. Loco engines and stationary engines too..

'Waterschield' I think???

I was in Philly yesterday, pretty close to where I remember the turntable to be. I wanted to stop by and grab a few pictures, but my wife wanted to get home. It was somewhere along here. Probably removed in last 20 years, although I thought I drove by it maybe 10 years ago and it was still there. Time flies….

At the right edge of the red box where you see the black rooftops stood Westinghouse. They made hydroelectric turbines there for submarines and dams all over the world.
Closed in the 1979-80 recession forever. My grandfather was a machinist there. Worked on the nuclear powered nautilus submarine turbines project and turbines for dams

I went back to 1997 and can't find any signs of it. I'll keep poking around.
Pretty cool story about your grandfather.

Clearing snow at Donner's pass in California released just a few weeks ago. Seems like this video was made by the UP. Nonetheless, its neat to see how tracks are cleared there.
Very cool!!
I really enjoyed that video!!

Couple questions, has anyone ever seen or operated a railroad rotary blower (besides YouTube) for snow removal? Are they still used?

Here's about 1940 in the Philadelphia area. I tried to get the most RR stuff in one screen grab. The red dot was just a random waypoint to get me started.

Yes they are but I'd guess are very hard to see them in action. Operate? Might be 2 dozen people in North America who operate the RR owned ones.
