.
Are we talking gas or diesel engines? Tacoma, I presume gas. Even gas engines do not reach expected performance at idle and probably become prone to fouled plugs if idled for extended periods regularly.
My thoughts are along those lines, as it us gasoline powered..

I sure liked those old 790s: steel everywhere and cast iron transmission cases and axles. I wish they still sold JDs like that.

They still do. The hood on mine is synthetic but the rest of it is steel and cast iron, just like the 1965 110 sitting next to it. I think the synthetic material the 5075E's hood is made of is sturdier than the 110's fiberglass hood, though.

Regarding regenerations, mine did this at exactly 100.0 hours. A light on the instrument panel turned on and the exhaust smell changed to smell like a combination of curing paint and a diesel engine running rich. There was no smoke or anything. I kept doing what I was already doing and the light went off after about 15 minutes and that was it.

I looked at JD before buying my Kubota because my last tractor was JD. The ones I saw at the dealers last year had plastic hoods and fenders, and plastic just about everywhere else. The transmission cases were aluminum. They appeared to be cheaply made, even though they were the most expensive brand. Just my impressions, your mileage may vary.

A few of the compacts like the 3E series have an aluminum transmission case, and some of the compacts do have plastic fenders. I know that the other 3 series machines (3D and 3R) as well as all of their larger units have iron transmission housings. Deere has been using synthetic materials for hoods and cowlings for a long time, they had been that way on their utility tractors since at least the 1990s.

You saw the 3 series. I think it's the only one with Al tranny housing. They do use plastic which I don't really have an issue with. I get some pretty hard hits on mine without bending anything. If they were metal they would get dinged up. I have no idea what the big deal is about metal vs plastic. Both have good and not so good points.

My issue with plastic is that I live at high elevation, and the UV destroys all forms of plastic. It all becomes brittle over time. Also, the 3 series was the same price range as my steel Kubota. I’m sure that Deere has some better machines than the 3 series, but they aren’t price competitive.

In the grand scheme of things it is just a minor inconvenience, or no inconvenience at all if you are doing work at constant throttle. I rarely park and wait during regen with my Kubota M8560.

I bought a 2018 Massey 1734 and it had the DPF. I got annoyed with it and traded it in for. 2019 2706 which is a 60 HP tractor. It does not have a DPF and it was worth the upgrade!! Not only for the extra HP to work some bigger implements, but no more re-gen! Some people say it 10-15 minutes every 75 hours… what’s the big deal. I find it would re-gen much more frequent then people think.
