Family oriented, G rated and discussing things doesnt have to come with an iron hand.

I agree. But make your point, never ever attack the other poster personally (this sure needs to be repeated time and time again)
, and then give it a rest.
We learn from others and not just ourselves.

Several of us are long time members of the biggest thread here. Good Morning. The reason it has lasted all this time (along with the wonderful Harbor Freight threads) is that we all get
along, we all want to share, and yes of course we come for a little entertainment. It's our online Cheers bar. And many of us take lots of pictures and everyone likes to enjoy them.
Some of us are capable enough to teach, and that's where this site is so valuable. Like the welding threads we have here. I was brave enough to show my very first stick weld on that thread and the members were very kind. Most folks truly enjoy helping others.

I've always felt that alcohol and ? imbibed in during the evening hours has led to a great number of unfortunate posts.

As the bumper sticker on my SIL's car says: Just Be Nice

Thanks for asking Muhammad

I have not voted yet.

I am curious why this is coming up. What rules need tweaking?

IMO the site needs more moderators and if rules are to be changed, that is done through discussion amongst the moderators and the owner.

One comment....
There was a member who left the site because someone complained about the fellow having a line of scripture in his signature. That was childish and it bothered me. This fellow never "preached" (to the best of my knowledge), and I enjoyed his contributions.

I would have put the complainer on ignore if I knew who it was. Talk about not being nice!!!

Any of mine, after imbibing, would be easily recognizable by the numerous misspellings, grammatical errors and generally nonsensical content

Society, as a whole, seems to have gotten very uncivil...
and we all know why, the two things we can't talk about here that have dominated our lives over the last two years.
It's really hard to filter out all that emotional context, so we have to acknowledge it and give each other a little more slack.

More emotionally stressed out folks who take offense at what they perceive as a slight when it was never intended.
Most of us know folks who have unexpectedly gotten sick or died in the last few years. No wonder there is worry, but you can't make
that worry go away with a click of the keyboard. Providing an outlet and even a solution for that worry online would be a huge gift to mankind.
Maybe Muhammad can work on that next. But it seems the conversations and level of concern just got out of hand until the teapot boiled over.

I believe we have a sensitive site owner who wants guidance on how to instruct his moderators.
We all understand free speech. And we all know it both joins us and divides us. That's the joys of having your own opinion.

Roy, I've never seen you be nonsensical but I'll keep a look out! ;)

Owners make the rules, maybe this is political but your business is your business. Also political if the customer doesn’t like it they can take a hike. If too many take a hike with the rules then the owner can decide to change them.

Now if you want feedback on rules I think you could absolutely put up a poll, don’t even necessarily have to follow the results. Still your decision if you put up a pole.

While the forum is private, it is also public. Whoever is moderating may be overzealous with their power. I had one post removed (rightfully IMO) without a trace and I was told they didn’t know who did (Wanted to say thanks). I tried to post about current events in Canada (as a Wow, have you seen this), gone without a trace.

Maybe the mods should have guidelines imposed on them. Family oriented, G rated and discussing things doesnt have to come with an iron hand. Too many places are stripping away our individuality little by little.
I disagree that it’s public, you have to create an account to post. It is publicly searchable though so anything on it does reflect on the owners.

I voted no.

I have been here some twenty years, no one on ignore, one post removed - with a moderator explanation, a few heated PM's sent my way and that is all.

That removed post - spelling of our country name in Cyrillic like fashion - really upset someone. A long, long time ago.

Life is hard enough, don't make it harder on yourselves. Follow the forum rules and be civil. Show some respect too.

Talk about not being nice!!!

most of our faiths have little tolerance for others, sadly.
It's one of the reasons we can't talk about that here.
It's clear what that avatar means, but I'm more interested in what he says, versus
how he wants to identify himself. Our avatar is just one tiny little part of us...

Years ago I offended a guy here so badly he hasn't talked to me since, and it was sure unintentional
on my part, but it upset a fragile old member, a really nice guy, who had some very strong faith beliefs, and he thought
I was being dismissive of his faith. So this one fellow gets upset that I upset this other fellow, who left and never came back.
And I've been shunned ever since.

so yeah, there are rules and there are rules, but what you say here can hurt people's feelings and
sometimes that takes a long time to get over.
