Planning to buy soon

Hi all,
New here. Last year we moved to our 80 acres and built a house. I am going on 50 years old. On the docket this spring is a tractor to help make the work easier.

Uses for tractor would be land management, gardening, wood cutting, food plots, field clearing, animal care (goats, chickens, etc.), snow removal, two track/trail maintenance, and eventually maybe even some crop work down the road or a hay field and cutting/bailing. I could have about 30-35 acres of tillable on our land with some work, the rest is wooded/swampy. 4x4, cab, and loader is a must. I am not sure what else to add but I'll try to answer any questions asap.

I don't intend to make a living doing anything of these things. More of retirement hobby. :)

I do NOT want to buy a tractor that is too small or one that is too large to get into the woods when needed.

I talked to a local Kioti dealer and his recommendation was a NS4710HB w/ cab w/ loader at a price of $40.5K.

I guess I am also interested in Mahindra but not sure on a specific tractor. There is also a Kubota and Massey Furgeson dealer nearby, but I think I've ruled on Kubota and JD just because of the premium price.

What brands (Kioti, Mahindra, TYM, Branson, Massey, Case IH, New Holland, Yanmar etc.) would you recommend or definitely avoid and if you have specific models that would be great as well.

I think I just want to go new to take advantage of 0% financing and I don't want an old tractor that constantly needs tinkering to keep it operational.

Thanks. Look forward to the conversation.
I'm on my 3rd Kubota. We got a B2601 last fall with the front hyd added, 0% financing, good in the woods. My oldest on is a late 1980's L2250. I've used that for years clearing the drive and bucket and backhoe work. The other is a SSV65 skidsteer with 76" snowblower, bucket, stump puller, excavator arm, and a plow I can share with the B2601. They are very reliable machines that will last for decades.

I bought a kubota @0% interest new. I got one size bigger than I thought I needed. I got an MX and I a happy I did. Wished I had gotten a rear remote. A cab would have been nice, but I have a woods as well. Love this tractor and its reliability. This is my second tractor, but the best.

First off: congratulations! Second: you’re gonna love having a tractor! So many things you can use it for, that you never even realized!

I got a Branson 3520h and love it! Doing it again, I’d get one with 45-50hp. And absolutely love the hydrostatic transmission. But it does eat a little power!

With what you have planned, I’d go with min 50hp. And make sure you seating position is comfortable!

I don’t think your comment is true regarding 0% financing. If you ask for a cash discount versus financing, the discount isn’t much. Why would a dealer want to give much of a cash discount? The financing is done by corporate not the dealer.

I went to 5 dealers and all offered a $3K discount since I was paying cash.

That’s definitely not the case with Kubota dealerships. I shopped with several and was told the price is the same or a very small discount. The dealership doesn’t carry the loan so it makes no difference to them.

All 5 were Kubota dealerships as that is what I bought. So I don't know why you were told that.

I checked directly with Yanmar and the published weight does not include FEL or ballast.

That’s a good metric, thanks for posting. It’s confusing the way Yanmar lists the weight of the YT’s in the brochure. Up close they’re every bit as big as a Kubota Grand L.

I considered a few different brands and different dealerships, the best salesman was at a John Deere store that guy was very knowledgeable about what he was selling and very honest. But the John Deere tractor cost about $15,000 more than the LS I wound up buying with what seems to be the same Yanmar engine and same 3 speed hydrostatic transmission. My LS came from the factory equipped with 3 remotes, to me that was a very big selling point.
The Kubotas besides being overpriced come with a forward-reverse pedal that I simply don’t like so it was pretty easy for me to cross Kubota off my list.
I liked Branson but the dealer was over 100 miles from my home and I preferred to buy something closer to home.
Shopped at a few different LS dealers but preferred the one 40 miles from home so that’s where I bought from, when I was buying new tractors weren’t easy to get but my dealer managed to locate what I wanted at a dealer somewhere in Iowa and didn’t charge me anything to go get it and deliver it to me. So far I have 435 trouble free hours on it and any time I have had any questions my dealer has been excellent at answering them. I highly recommend anyone in my area to consider buying from Miller Tractor Sales in Spencer Wisconsin. Miller Tractor is a family owned and operated outfit and I know for a fact that folks have been hauling tractors a couple hundred miles to get repairs done there.
