I voted no.

When "good" members leave, as some have, the owner of the site knows there is something wrong. It is his responsibility to manage it...not ours.

I am on a shooting forum where I spend more time. Some of the best "stickies" and threads are from "good" people who have been banned or left on their own. That site has deteriorated in content. New members do not see it, but the "old timers" know. It could happen here as well.

I disagree with those who think this site is "perfect". When people like James and Old Path have to leave, something is not quite right.
Well stated. The owner knows there is a problem. His solution is to ask for input.

I vote no on letting members of the herd set their own rules.
I come here to read about farm machinery, and rural lifestyle.

I definitely don’t want to see any COVID or national political discussions here. At this point, nobody is going to change anybody’s mind, and there are better places to discuss these topics than TBN.

I do favor more mods, and identifying why non Complying posts were deleted. In general, I am very happy with the content and management of TNT, and that is why I keep coming back.
I agree this is a platform that rural people can feel comfortable in without the bombardment of people who just want to rant.

I have been caught up in some topics that certainly have political tones, but lets be clear politics has been injected into just about everything these days. I was never a very political person but when it starts to compromise my freedoms, choices and values I wouldn't be too worthy if I didn't fight back. I feel the need to at least interject my experiences with things like land use, parts and service, and ever encroaching suburbia, etc. It used to be that rural, suburban, and city folk had respect for each others lifestyles and we amazingly got along just fine. But metropolitan majorities keep pushing us and make rules that attempt to undermine the independent lifestyle we cherish and have worked so hard for.

anyway this site is great and important to rural people,,,,,whatever they say I'm good with.

Want to start???? Send Old Path a request to come back and let him know a line of scripture in his profile is not offensive. If that is too much of a compromise, God bless you!
He could be a little frustrating sometimes but knew his stuff, contributed a lot, and seemed to stimulate conversations. In the past few weeks especially, I've noticed that many members who mainly posted about tractors, wood, and sawmilling don't seem to be around as much. Heck, I don't even see Sawyer Rob around as much as I used to.

The irony about OP's signature is that just one member seemed to take offense... and he takes offense at a lot of mundane things. Meanwhile there are other signatures which-to me, at least- seem to be there to generate controversy, yet they're allowed to remain.

I'm surprised that there are not more votes. With over 300,000 members and around 230 members logged in right now, you'd think there would be more members voting as this thread continues.. What does that mean?

Cheers,
Mike
I'm on here a lot Mike, as you know. I just found this thread 20 minutes ago.

Some of the "problems" have been self-inflicted.

Members that have been "banned" get reinstated rather quickly. Like catch and release.

Constant bad actors have not been given time outs when they needed them, and some should have been banned but were treated with "moderation".

I have never reported a post on this forum. Might be interesting to know who is doing all the complaining that most of us feel is unwarranted.

We know J-walking is illegal. If LEO's spent their time enforcing it is that a good use of their time? The message is...sweating over the "small stuff " has caused members to leave.

Want to start???? Send Old Path a request to come back and let him know a line of scripture in his profile is not offensive. If that is too much of a compromise, God bless you!

"One nation under God"...we shouldn't need a 2x4 across the head to figure it out.
Another good post Don.

This site owner has created another site where you can speak your mind freely on whatever subject.

No, no you can not.
Eh? Examples? TNT?

My impression is more like some people there seem to post while their minds are completely blank. :p

Very emphatic, no content.

Yes, Old Path is a good dude... we rarely agreed but found a common voice in our personal beliefs.

Hmmm.... I would meet all that, other than the citizenship part, I'm not sure how that's a factor. And, as a moderator of an international pilot forum, I do so as a 45 year pilot, 35 year airplane owner, and aerodrome owner. But...

x snip x snip x
I agree with your intire post but snipped it to save TBNs "Jiggerbites"
As to age requiremant. When our dad passed away my older brother stepped in at 17 years old to help mom run our farm. He was killed at 26 by a drunk driver. Long before his death,he earned respect of bankers, dealers, neighboring farmers and community as an accomplished farmer and businessman. Only those who saw it in color can imagine the magnatude of that in 1957 to 1966. I would lay even odds on "J" against anyone on TBN when solving a problem, beit life or tractors. I answered questions by my son and nephew as they prepared mom's eulogy in 2010. As the oldest living blood relative I asked they include a challange to mom's male decendents. "You will make our family proud if by age 26 you are the man Uncle J was and if in a life time you become only half the man Granny was." I haven't made it yet but I'm trying. Age or gender doen't catagoricly quilfy or disquilify candidates.

I disagree with those who think this site is "perfect".

Is entirely fair, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and their sense of "on the centerline" or not...

When people like James and Old Path have to leave, something is not quite right.

If these two posters feel that the theme of the forum has drifted away from their ideal centerline, that's fair. But maybe that drift is toward a greater number of member's preferred centerline, who's to say? Those who voted? Maybe it is more "right" for others.....

There is no way to find a centerpoint for this, not possible. Everything is a compromise. I look for what I like here, and pass by the topics where I'm certain to hold a minority opinion. Why look for what's not right, when there's enough right?
