Regardless of the position, forward/reverse/neutral. That "slit" in the cylinder will let oil flow through the relief valve in any position. I could be wrong on that, but comparing it to the diagram it looks backward. There was Teflon tape on the hydraulic fittings, and paint was worn off all the bolts so it definitely looked like it has been off and apart before. I'm gonna get it back together and test the pressure.

Luck favors the prepared mind - great observation skills !
With 020 flipped so it's clocked right does it work ok?

Nope sadly, and it didn't operate correctly. It was wishful thinking, but I do have a used shuttle control valve being delivered Friday, so I'll throw that in and see what happens.

Good news - I really believe in the L3 models, but as the earlier ones get past 40 years old, there will be more worn-out parts needing attention. In this case it looks like the dry clutch was worn and slipping - and somebody worked on the wet-clutch valve instead, making things worse. Good work - glad its moving ok again Dick B

Good news - I really believe in the L3 models. How many hours on it? Glad you didn't need to split it again - Good work - Dick B
The hour meter stopped working at 986 hours, so it's hard to say, but judging on the amount of damage and half-ass repairs to the bucket, and other lack of maintenance I would say she was rode hard and put away wet. BUT the engine runs super crisp, with no transmission issues, if I had to guess I would say 2000-3000 hours, based on the fact when I swapped the clutch it was the original clutch and didn't appear to have been split before.

I have about 5 hours of use out if now since replacing the shuttle control valve and am beyond pleased with the tractor.

That is one of the best L4150 (L3) series Kubota threads I've read in a long time. Your tractor is a good one and a true horse. Well Done!
