Am i correct the differential lock pedal when engaged locks the rear differential wheels when in 4 wheel drive or two wheel drive? front wheels are never locked when in 4 wheel drive?

Yes, the differential lock pedal typically locks only the rear axle differential together, allowing both rear wheels to aid in traction. It does not lock the front wheels together. It can be operated in 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive.
On some models, there may be a separate locking device for the front axle. Most tractors have a “limited slip” front axle allowing some transfer of power from a slipping front wheel to a front wheel that has greater traction.
I have 2 farm tractors with an electric switch on the dash that locks the front axle together (Kubota M126X & M135X)When coupled with the rear axle differential lock, gives true 4WD. Some tractors have a switch on the dash, some have a pedal on the cab floor.

Some 4wd have posi or limited slip in front. Rear lock is same on 2wd and 4wd. My 58 model has a lock pedal. Don't hit the lock pedal when spinning.

Excellent post. Exactly what I would have said. Those larger machines have choices for the front axle but your L3940 probably does not. I have 3 Kubota 2150's and one MF 2660 HD and all of them have the "rear wheel lock together" pedal. None have the front wheel choice.

Plus 10 on that, You'll grenade the internal locking mechanism.

On my units, M series Kubota's, I have 2 diff locking pedals, one for the rear and one for the front. I rarely use the front one, actually I rarely use the rear one either. I believe later models than mine have some sort of limited slip front axles on the 4wd models. Mine are 100% mechanical engagement.

I wouldnt use the front unless I'm in mud or going straight.

If you look closely will actuating I'm pretty sure pushing the front axle lock actually engages both the rear and the front locks. atleast that is how it worked on my father in laws M6800.

My L4740 only has the rear diff lock and no limited slip in the front.

Ok thanks guys i wanted to make sure my thinking was correct and locking the rear differential is what i had figure as you can watch both wheels driving or slipping in the snow, Maybe i am wrong but some say they have locking ability for front to lock also, I would think this would be a great help when needed?
