Not a stupid question at all. Yes, the head of the saw rests on the rim of the scabbard. Often the dogs chew it up a little to make a sort of form fit. There is very little flex force on the bar as long as the scabbard is long enough to go up to the head or at least close. It's a common tried and true method of carrying a saw.

Thanks for that input. I guess I need to revert back to the head resting on the top rim of the scabbard. Right now, it's intentionally not because I was afraid of bending the spikes.

Your fine either way. A saw bar is mighty tough. It takes a pretty hefty force to bend one . Your saw head is nowhere near heavy enough to bend it on it's own.

Four pieces of rubber belting (an old mudflap would do,,) and four bolts.
Two of the pieces of rubber are spacers, about 1" wide.
There is also a short chain between the two top bolts, in case the rubber tries to break out of the bolts,,

Make the holes with a HF drill powered gasket cutter set,, it will take out clean slugs.

Nice build and much better than trying to carry a chainsaw in the loader bucket or floorboard.

... or on my lap, which is what I usually end up doing. It works but it sucks

I put the saw head on the right side tractor floor next to the HST pedals pointing forwards with the bar sticking out past the steel and glass guard. Then hold it on with a bungy cord. It's not as good as the OP's well designed and thought out holder but until I make my own holder it'll do.

Time will tell if mechanical clamping can hold up to the rigors of tractor work. Realize not everyone can weld and you have to work with what you got.

Chainsaws are not very heavy but they also tend to require much other tooling like gas/oil, log chains, cant hook, ect.

Five bolts secure it to the tractor.

Some really slick ways to carry your saw. I found a way - quicker, easier and I already have the "holder". Actually - the saw, gas can, oil can, axe and sharpener all fit in this "holder".

I built this in haste a year ago, it's simple but actually works. It's never fell or was knocked off so I guess it works out. Thought about upgrading it but haven't made the time
