The way I see it; When the manufactures stop having to make items for California, the prices will go down. It's already happening. I just bought a gas powered backpack blower that said on the box, "Not for sale in California". Yea! It was cheap too! (y) 😜

Everyone has seen the news articles about the snow mishap on I-95 interstate in Virginia, just a couple weeks ago.
The cars were running out of gas, as the drivers sat there and idled their engines.
The people were cold.

One "SMALL" news article told the story of how a Tesla owner stayed comfortable the entire time,,
The article went on to state that the driver of the Tesla had no concerns about carbon monoxide poisoning,,

That guy seemed to be OK,,, ?? o_O "~"
Maybe as a solution,, we ALL need to move to 🌴🐠🍹🌴:)
I've been asking about this very thing for a while now... including several times in the "Battery powered Cars, 1&2; yet that is the closest I've seen to getting an answer.
Also want to add this very clever article by an engineer about electric mowers in case people have missed this one. Very good info.

I haven't shopped for a lawn mower engine lately, but have bought a couple of small gas engines to power my water pump and pressure washer. Niether time could I find a HP rating; all that they show is the cc's.

The difference between switching from horses to automobiles vs gas to electric is that nobody was forced to give up their horse via mandates or simply jacking the prices up of using one. If you ask a valid question about an EV you aren't going to get a straight answer; rather, a believer will snort with derision and label you as afraid to change.

I've calculated that with my current driving habits, if gas goes to 6$/gallon it will cost me about 6600$/year to run my pickup. It would take 15 years just to realize the purchase price of a replacement electric. Until prices of an electric pickup come down, I'll just keep what I have.

It is true without subsidies and privilege the industry would be different.

There are a lot of electrics at work and a HUGE reason is the single occupant being able to use HOV lanes on freeway.

Of course there are early adopters like the Doc that went all solar for his home and office and charges his electric from rooftop... but he is a believer and that tends to be rare.

This is an interesting piece of equipment, very much in it's infancy, sure. I've also seen the Volvo excavator, impressive for what it is. However, I don't think you will see that all electric excavator in the mining industry anytime soon, or other operations requiring 24 hrs operation and virtually no electric grid. :)

For cities and small counties road and parks maintenance departments it should fit is quite well. Any place where the machine is taken back to the shop daily should be a good fit. This would exclude general construction and site development as well as mining.

None of the tractors had a FEL. Only one showed the possible use of hydraulics. How well do they operate on hills? How well to they operate in subfreezing temperatures. How long do the batteries last doing something like rototilling 10 acres?
They are definitely they way of the future but they have a ways to go yet before we see them at our local compact tractor dealer.
I wonder how long it would take a Honda 6000 genset to charge the battery pack or if it is possible to on board a generator?

Also would be nice if there was a 120/240 tap for job site plug in work.

Anyone know the cost and also transport weight?

Don't know about a Honda, but I have a Generac GP 6500 240v that cost approx $800 at the time, I have it for my deep well pump. Weight approx 170 lbs.

Case 580 EV electric backhoe loader is powered by a 480-volt, 90-kW, lithium-ion battery pack (weighing 1,300 pounds) that can be charged in eight hours by any 220-volt/three-phase connection. A single battery charge will support most eight-hour workdays.

Three Phase Charging...

Wonder what cost per charge at 35 cent kW works out to?

I'm guessing a solar panel on the roof not going to help much...

1, The genset would sort of defeat the purpose of buying an battery powered machine.

2. If used sparingly a maybe dedicated charging station could be used on site. Fast charging a Tesla requires 440v so well beyond a jobsite tap. I don't know, but I think a backhoe would consume considerably more power than a Tesla in normal use.

3. Only a guess, but comparable to a similar diesel unit.

I was thinking along the lines of locomotive tech where traction is electric powered by onboard diesel generator.

I know the local grid is already losing transformers due to electric plug in cars.

Plus at 35 cents kW???
