Errrk! $1800 for parts and extras to fix my flail mower. Parts are on the way. Hope my rib is healed enough so that I can carry out the repairs.
Also ordered a new screen/security door as my wife wanted it to be the same colour as the new windows and doors we ordered over the last few months. Nothing wrong with the old one but....
Another $600.
New pup arriving on Thursday so a trip to the city for food and 'stuff' for him. He should get on great with our other ones. He is a birthday present for my wife.
Managed to mow a couple of acres with the ZT yesterday. Little bit sore after but only to be expected. I hate doing nothing. Property is looking real good at present.

27° right now...high in the mid-40's and rain coming in later today...about ½" or more, per the forecast.

Doctor's appointment went OK...heart is beating a little faster than desirable, but apparently, no real worries...yet

Really need to make a dump run, once I confirm it's open. The dump had been closed last Friday until today. Never got a clear explanation as to why.
Also, need to get some diesel...probably 10 gallons of off-road. There's probably enough in the tank for the snow coming in Thursday into Friday (9-10 inches) but why chance it...

Alien, it’s been almost five weeks and my ribs are not completely healed. Much better though.

Good Morning!!!! A chilly 36F here this morning. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High near 55F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. You folks have been very busy! Took a long time to catch up, even though I've been taking brief peeks while I was away.

I'm a strong believer in diversity, Drew, all kinds of it including financial. I'm very fond of the dividends thrown off by MO (Altria), a tobacco stock I've held for many years, even though I choose not to partake of the noxious weed myself. I take a very dim view of so called "activism" that seems aimed at limiting the options available for everyone else. If people could learn to live and let live, there would be a lot less strife in the world, right Randy?

I put out eight full hummingbird feeders last Thursday morning, and when I got home yesterday afternoon, only two of them had anything in them. One was being swarmed by about a dozen of the little devils as the sun set last night, so job one this morning is whipping up another seven gallons of nectar and getting it hung out for the hungry ones.

My friend in Lompoc enjoyed showing me around over the long weekend, but in spite of the hospitality and the nice weather, there wasn't much allure in the real estate market there. For example, a new listing popped up on her street, and the sale history on the property showed it had been sold just last October for about $400K, and was back on the market at $517K. It's amazing what a coat of cheap white paint and some laminate flooring will do for a property. Not. We also found another property very similar to where I live now, with all the same problems. It sat at the end of a very narrow, steep, and brush choked lane, at the top of a hill, in a rural area far from fire hydrants or fire stations. That likely meant satellite only Internet, and the same problems getting homeowners insurance coverage, along with well and septic issues. None of this stopped the seller from asking nearly $900K for it, though. No wonder it's been on the market for so long.

Also worked in some hikes, one through a large open space area holding an old Spanish mission with lots of historical exhibits, another an empty beach to one side of the Vandenberg Space Force Base, an installation so big it pretty much dominates the town of Lompoc. The beach hike proved the undoing of my old hiking boots, as both soles decided to detach from the front half of the uppers toward the end of the walk. Couldn't have picked a better time, but I guess the ancient glue the Slovacs used just couldn't take another step. They were Lowa Scouts, the latest thing twelve years ago, but now I'm wondering what marvels have arisen in the hiking boot world since then.

Took the scenic way down on Thursday, picking up Highway 1 on the coast at Carmel Valley, and staying on it all the way to Lompoc. Beautiful weather and very light weekday traffic, as well as plenty of time to get there, made for a very enjoyable ride. I let the GPS pick the route home yesterday, and it made a bee line for I-5, which has seen a surprising amount of re-surfacing in the past few years. That meant a nice smooth ride for me and a bottle or two of some unusual Bourbon I ran across during my stay. No mechanical problems on the touring bike this time around, though it did develop some new static on the audio system about half way home yesterday. Probably another dirty connection somewhere, and nothing a few drops of automatic transmission fluid won't cure.

A happy 2/22/22 to you all!

Good morning, low 7 high 19°F. Wind ENE 11 gusting to 20 mph. Ice pellets mixed with snow. So far....nothing.

Might have to go to Huntsville, ON to pick up DIL, she went there in an ambulance last evening. Blood pressure was high and she forgot to take her pills yesterday. I will be really happy when I can get back to work and get off this roller coaster. I feel for my son, he is her primary care giver.

Other than the Huntsville trip I have nothing on the book for today.

Have a safe day all

Jeez!!
What brand flail mower do you have...and how wide?

I paid $1900 for my 73" Caroni flail mower 3 years ago..

good morning all
38 out now going up to low sixties with lots of rain coming in this afternoon and tonight.

back to Doylestown hospital at lunch for my second treat of the week, getting my port out. It will be interesting to see what
they say about the big bandage on the other side of my chest. Soon to be nothing but plain skin, and a whole lot of scars.
I learned a new word yesterday. They did an explant of my implant. Makes sense. One more to go.

after breakfast this morning which I'm munching on with a cup of coffee, then a long trip to the bathroom.
No, no plumbing problems.
Today the beard comes off. Tomorrow I go to new dermatologist and she needs to see my face, not my beard.
I normally shave it off next month near my birthday but this year a little earlier.

Roy, I bet that Caroni costs 50% more now.

waiting for the stock market to collapse, thank you Putin

35° supposed to be in 60s today with rain around noon. Fire whistle is going off. How many still have a fire whistle to summons the vfd?

The road by my house is so noisy.

Mostly, hope no bad storms for you.

Happy 290th Birthday to George Washington. I wish there was still a national day honoring him like when I was a kid.

Eric, and Roy, glad your medical tests were good.

Alien, congrats on the new dog.

Yesterday hiked up to Rocky Mount mountain, what I think is my longest one day hike...and maybe the highest elevation gain...I'll check my log. Was a long day, and a warm, beautiful one for February. Saw one snow patch, and two hikers...a recent UVA grad, and a lady about my age. She said her goal after retirement was to do the Shenandoah 500...500 miles of trails in the park...she completed it, and now just hikes the trails she like the most. I had to cross the stream 11 times hopping rocks. I'll post a couple of pics later. This trail is certainly one of my top favorites.

Today will not just be an energy conservation day, but a recuperation day. Although I do have some firewood work to do before the rain gets here.

Yep, sure does...$2900

I might have to consider locking my equipment up...the chipper is in a shed (which can be locked, but the loader bucket and pallets forks are on pallets outside..as is the flail mower, come to think of it

update on the car carrier still on fire.
Looks like there may have been a lot of VW ID4 EVs on board. Audi also has luxury EVs and I'm guessing this was a Porsche Audi VW transporter and since they
also own Bentley, probably why those gorgeous cars were on board. All that work wasted.
Burning anything is not good for you but burning battery fumes have got to be deadly.

I have looked seriously at an ID4. Not going to do long drives any more. Will take the train.
If I find a honey I'll go places in an rv. Something big and comfy.

There is a high speed charger at the municipal lot 2000 feet away. Take my Kindle with me and sit.
15 amp service in my garage surely would not be speedy.

not yet.

UPDATE 2/21/22: The Wall Street Journal has spoken with a spokesperson for the salvage crew working on the burning cargo ship, who confirmed that "part of the fire is the batteries [in electric vehicles on board] that are still burning." The paper said that according to Portuguese navy officials and salvage workers who have seen a cargo manifest, "it is clear that many of the cars on board are electric vehicles." The fire, which started on Wednesday, has continued to burn into the weekend

Boy! That's going to be one serious insurance claim!!

Don’t forget Drew the price of fuel will soar while the stock market crashes and burns. Churches need to invest their money where it will do the most good to insure the church grows. Placing limitations on where it can go may make one group happy another group upset. Sounds almost totalitarian is that where one wants to go.

Wifes head and leg very sore and I am worried for lots of reasons

Finished tar and gravel job yesterday that’s it till mid March weather will not cooperate and asphalt plants have not opened ye.

I believe RNG will see $8.00 plus fuel in the coming months and we will follow

prayers for all our country

Alien, it’s been almost five weeks and my ribs are not completely healed. Much better though.
I cracked a rib years ago when I thought I could do anything and tried to learn snow boarding.

Caught the front edge and face planted hard!!!! I actually bounced.. Drove my elbow into my rib cracking it.

Just as I would start to feel better, I would over do it and feel a "Pop!!" Followed by excruciating pain. And then have to start all over.

I had to force myself to take it easy for about 6 weeks after I felt better in order to make sure I didn't re-injure it again.

Normal everyday tasks, were fine. But I had to avoid any hard wrenching, over exertion, heavy lifting.....

Boy! That's going to be one serious insurance claim!!
first estimate was $500M on cargo and $50M on ship. Everyone is talking total loss, particularly since fire isn't out yet
will drive up transportation costs even more as rates may increase. Already having issues in many areas of the world.

Buppies, there is no upset here at all and never has been. Our investment accounts were up 30% last year.
Most funds are invested in a Quaker banking/financial organization called Friends Fiduciary in Philadelphia. It has unique
capabilities including guaranteed investment returns. Most of the local Meetings invest their money there, because the folks are trustworthy
for sure but all of the investments are strictly screened for armaments and military. Just like they are for the Amish and Mennonites.
That was the beginning. Now their whole portfolio
is limited by a variety of social concerns. Just part of putting our money where our mouth is.

I am very happy with 30 percent. And we all know it is not sustainable. All I can say is there is plenty of investment profit to be made in green
investments. Like everything, you have to be very careful. Thankfully I'm professionally trained in this, or was. I may be getting rusty but the basics of
investing and things like 60/40 allocations haven't changed. So...being ecological is part of our faith. Instead I'm being cheered on. It's all good.

I'm all for free choice anyway.
And RNG, I personally own some copper mining stock for a US based operation (FCX) that I think provides a critical need to our economy.
Absolutely not green. So individually we can do whatever our common sense tell us to.
In less than a year I'm up 20 percent on that stock. I rarely buy stock but with all the rare earth and metal shortages now, sure seems like a growth sector.

cracked ribs sound like bad news, thankful never happened to me. Must be hard to get comfortable while sleeping. Hope all heal quickly.

One always has to look at performance vs certain major indexes, like the S&P.
Then to some degree you can calculate the cost of your convictions if you restrict too much,
or perhaps smile at your gains if you happened to pick the gainers correctly.
Different ponds to fish in, all looking for the big fish ;)
