I converted many furnaces from propane to NG after a gas company ran NG to the area.
Installed many propane heaters, Water heaters, and furnaces on propane as well.

Empire floor furnaces are very reliable but make sure the vent pipe is maintained and inspected regularly. And that the redundant high limit has been installed as well ( yellow wire to a high limit) depending on the year they would have 2 high limit switches right from the factory. Although reliable they are not very efficient. IMO
Maintained? Limit switches? The 1940 floor furnaces in our home haven't had any maintenance since new. I don't think there is a yellow wire to anything. Each has only the pair coming down from its Honeywell mercury wall thermostat.

I'm cautious, considering their age I have each one turned up to only about 60~70% of maximum.

When we added the second story in 1988 we replaced the asbestos oval flue that was in the attic, with type B (I think) flue in a second story wall and through the new roof. This passed inspection. But only the new second story was subject to city inspection.

Had the same problem on a propane fired salamander heater. Fortunately - new thermocouple solved this problem.
