Going to be trading my l3800 hydro/loader for a cab tractor of similar specs. Bought this tractor new in 13. Now has 2000 hrs. A Kioti dealer offered me 8500 which I considered insulting. I was thinking more like 15k. Am I being realistic?

He’s got to make money, he’s not gonna give you $15 if he’s only able to sell it at 15k. Should be easy to sell, not sure about 15k with 2k hours that’s gonna depend on a lot of things but more than $8 should be pretty easy.

Figured he's making plenty on the tractor he's selling me. The guy I originally bought my tractor from has a 3560 but no loader.

Good to know you understand his operating costs and margins better than he does and are the authority to set the business’ income. SMH.

Vote with your feet if it’s not the deal you want.

I once thought that way but never found a willing seller unless supply / demand was in my extreme favor.
Most every company expects to make a profit on every unit sold regardless of new, used or a trade in.
Consider a counter offer or move on. Good luck.

In general you're better selling on the open market and skipping a trade in. This market has kind of flipped things around, at least in the automotive end of things.
I recently traded my truck for a new one and got a ridiculous amount for it. More than what I paid for it.
I haven't been in the market to trade a tractor in many years, but assuming the OP's tractor is in very good condition I'd say he's being low balled. Yes, the dealer is in business to turn a profit. But no, the week's or the month's profit doesn't have to all come from one customer.

That does seem in the low ball category, even before current market conditions. Advertise your machine as a pre emissions machine at a more reasonable price and see how long it stays on the market.

My first Kubota was a 2004 cabbed L4630 with 2400 hard hours.
It came with an FEL, bush hog and BB for $13k plus about $2k for delivery from Florida to Vermont.
It was a private sale from a contractor who retired and was liquidating.
I sold the bush hog as I have no fields just woodland.
I ran the L for 4 years and put another 800 hours on it and ended selling it for $14K.
No pain there.:)

To the OP, if you are planning on trading it in, the difference you have to write the cheque for is the ONLY thing that matters. If you are happy with that amount, go for it, if not, see what you can buy the new one for, out the door, all costs included, without your trade-in. Then decide if you want to buy outright, and sell yours on your own, or trade it in, and be happy.

And as an aside to the above, in some jurisdictions when you trade you only pay the sales tax on the difference between new tractor price and the allowance for the traded tractor.
So depending on the transaction the increased sales tax for a new tractor bought outright may negate selling the old one on your own. That's just one of those things that will vary from one transaction to the next. But something to run the numbers on and consider nonetheless.
Of course if you are somehow exempt from sales tax it becomes moot.
