However long it sits in that shop, I'd want that l9ng added to my warranty.

Coolant filter? Who needs it anyway. My 58 model never had one. 76 has a umpteen jillion miles, ever had it. I just joined the 200,000 mile club in this one, never had it. Sounds like a good culprit to clog and lose an engine. They last a long time without these modern additions.

Well , yeah, but this dialog raises other questions. Normally the regional reps are senior in many ways and very knowledgeable as well as having some authority over who pays what, etc. HOWEVER, someone claiming a "coolant filter" (whatever that is) is causing your engine to smoke is himself smoking something... and a coolant filter has nothing to do with water in a diesel line ... this whole set of info is contorted and faulty. WYOWY, maybe you wanna clarify all that ? Esp what the regional rep really said.

only way fuel and coolant can mix is head/block issues.
a bad catalyst setup or egr setup can cause white smoke and loss of power.
that unit use DEF?

Dave, I do not think these folks are talking anything like a blown head gasket or some literal way for combustion and coolant things to mix. They are just clumsy with words and misquoting or misspeaking or both.

thats what I was wondering about.
also why I asked about DEF as agco has issues on the huge tractors (eg fendt) with def tank/valve issues

Thanks for all the comments. I have come up with a couple of other ideas so will work on those. I believe the dealer is looking for a loaner. what is wrong with tractor: I believe it is some sort of cooling filter. I had been having water in diesel line. The had cleaned all the hoses, tanks etc the week before. When I got it home and fired it up it blew all kinds of white smoke but ran for a few minutes. I'd have pedal to the floor but little response... kept getting slower and finally quit.

They were scratching their heads but one of the regional reps came and helped determine it was a defective filter in the cooling system. It sounds like it's not just "a" part but quite a few parts. they have had it sitting in one of their bays, dismantled, since I took it in. Thats the story. I will have patience but need to get spring projects going. I need to ask if they have any kind of a loaner and pray they find the part somewhere.

The good news its all warranty work!
Yes, you are really lucky it's under warranty. If you have water in your fuel injectors, that's a pretty intense job...as mentioned, I would definitely seek clarity on what is the real issue. when something like this happens, it may have been a rookie mechanic and they are doing cover-up now...we can speculate all day long, but I would for sure determine the root cause and what was the fix. Get that warranty extended too - good luck

If there was any way parts could be shipped out faster they would be. Every manufacturer has been dealing with supply chain shortages over the past year+. Unfortunately, you can't ship out what you don't have in stock.

yup. right now my dealer is at least 4 weeks for any GC series cylinders due to different loaders.
common parts usually 5-10 days though, just those odd parts for the attachments that hurt a lot.

"coolant filter" and "water in the fuel lines" are two things that don't go together. It sounds like a miss-communication of some kind. Definitely need clarification for any kind of troubleshooting.

The only thing that I can think of is some fuel filters have either a water separator or a desiccant as part of the filter to take care of "water in the fuel" problems. These systems can be overwhelmed by excessive amounts of water in the fuel system. This is usually taken care of by complete draining of the fuel system and a couple of successive change outs of the filters. The symptoms you describe "sound like" water in the fuel but could be other things as well.

Warranty or not, this is a terrible situation (at the mercy of others) to be in. It is impossible to assess the competency of the dealer/individuals involved unless you understand the issue, cause and cure for yourself.

The dealer may well know what the issue is and the awaited for parts may fix it. OR, the dealer, and by extension, the rep may be blowing smoke up your skirt to keep you quiet while they wait for parts to "shotgun" at your tractor in the hopes that it starts working and you go away.

Unless you understand the problem, cause and cure, how do you know that they know, you know?

I have had a LS tractor in the shop for about 10 months waiting on a injector...
