JD 4600- cuts off when putting into gear or turning on pto

I cut the 2 wires going to the seat and connected them together.
would this not bypass the seat switch?

Has it worked since you cut the wires? If yes possibly check to confirm they are still connected.

Don't be offended, but I have to ask... You connected the wires on the tractor side of the wiring correct? That should disable the seat switch.
I can't think of any other operator presence switch that would cause the symptoms you describe.

I'd start by checking the fuel delivery. Restricted fuel delivery will allow the engine to start and run but as soon as you up the power demand, the supplied fuel flow is too low and the engine dies. By all means check the electrical circuits that control the IP fuel solenoid because they can cause similar problems. The safety switches that govern starting the engine often only affect starter operation though there are many different electrical safety systems out there.
When's the last time you changed the fuel filter or drained the water separator?

changed fuel filter 6 months ago. its running fine just can't move it.

Perhaps there is a wiring issue between your seat switch jumper to the harness? I really think it has to be the seat opc wiring. The pto and clutch and/or hst pedal generally prevent the machine from starting.
Some manuals have a procedure to test the opc switches, other than that, I got nothin.

What is being powered down to stop the engine. I presume power to fuel solenoid on the fuel pump. If yes I would start tracing what items control power to that solenoid. I believe everyone suspects something in the safety circuit but the unknown is what other items could simulate the seat switch or are in that circuit.
