Thanks for the replys. I had not thought of running a tiller over the ground prior to using the rake. I do not have access to a rental rake, there are none in my area. I am really looking for all the information i can get from renters, owners and people who have seen them in action. Thank you very much, Greg

I have a TC33D and I have rented a T6 Harley rake for the week. It is a incredible tool. I am using it on 2 acres of pure bank run gravel, and wow, what a job !! I think I actually may be able to grow grass in what is left !!

I agree with the comment on needing more power in sod. I have a few small areas of field sod, and when the rake got into those areas, I had to go very sloooowwww, and lift the rake a little.

All in all, I have to tell you, as soon as I have a spare $8000, I will be buying a Harley rake. What a tool !! I noticed that a local dealer had a used "bar type" rake on his lot, but he wanted $4500 for it. I personally think the "nub" kind is the way to go after using one for 25 hours.

Greg, as you may remember, I use a Pro 8. It has a 96" roller with horizontal bars on the bottom. It probably turns easier then the carbide studs. Prior to using my Pro 8 I always rip the soil with my box blade, then follow it up with my Pro with the spring tooth chisels down. The Pro has hydraulic chisels on it as well as hydraulic angling and hydraulic roller height adjustment all easily controlled by a solenoid switched at my TnT valve. My tractor very easily turns the rollers but the added weight, about 1600lbs adds a lot of traction on the rears so there are times I loadup enough to require low range. My tractor has 30 PTO HP and is hydrostatic which works very well with the powered rakes.

I hope this is close enought to the mail topic here - I have a lawn that's in pretty good shape, but has quite a few dips and bumps. Is this a job for a harley rake? Or can I skim it with my tiller and drag it?

Good question for someone with the T series Harley. I have a Pro 8 and it is definitely for bare dirt, at least that is where it really shines. The difference are the carbide teeth on the T series where mine is a 8 foot roller with 5 or 6 horizontal bars about 3/4" X 3/4" welded on the length of the roller.

Anybody have a link to the home page for these?

I ran a Piranha for a few hours with a 4310 and it handled it, but I could have definitely used more power to go faster.

30HP at the PTO is way under powered to properly spin a PRO8 harley rake.... you should have a minimum of 35hp, 40 is preferred for that size rake. I have a T5 and spin it with 24HP at the PTO. the 6ft rake takes 35hp.

your really asking alot of your tractor to spin an 8ft rake with only 30HP.

T5 - 18-30 PTO HP
T6 - 22-35 PTO HP

PRO8 - 40+

MY rake a DEERE PR1160 FRONTIER series which is really a green painted T5 made by harley, it has hydraulic angle tilt, 2006 model with less than 100 hours of use. I'd sell it for $6000. Works absolutly perfectly.
