Lower lands in the UP during a hot wet summer makes the bugs terrible imo. Remember on lake Michigan dead calm something was floating 30 miles out so being the curious type decided to investigate it was a blow up beach ball loaded with black flies. Fortunately I had more bug repellent and killer than the orkin man. I used to wash the transom and cockpit of my vessel frequently to clean out mass Graves of the buggers used to clog up the cockpit scuppers.

We eat outside pretty much all summer. Nonetheless, you guys need to start a new thread.

Flies and mosquitoes on the Great Lakes and Midwest? JK 😂. In the keweenaw do you get occasional houseflies in the winter during a warm spell. Well I fixed the autocorrect on Keweenaw for you.

Folks, we got a few more snow pics and we are still skiing here, but I've not processed them yet. How long will it last?
Snow going fast or almost gone?

Thanks to all who sent me kind, supportive notes. Yes its is nice to keep the thread on whatever the subject was suppose to be, but I thought telling someone that they resided in a bug infested swamp for 24/7 was uncouth.

Lol no one said that, Arly. Surely you can admit that much of the UP are quite swarmed with flies and skeeters for some weeks of the summer. You live on a narrow peninsula with frequent breezes and less swampland, I'm sure that keeps the bugs down a bit. But frankly any northern land with a constrained summer season typically sees more intense fly concentrations, they have to swarm those precious warm days in order to survive as a species. Shoot, go hike at 10,000 ft on Mt hood, Mt adams, rainier, etc during July, you'll be completely covered in bugs.

In terms of snow, I was stunned to see that Mt Bohemia will still be operating for downhill skiing this weekend. Snowpack in may! I guess that's pretty normal after a cool April, though.

Even snow in Keweenaw melts and goes away at some time so I guess this snow thread will go away with the snow. Had a good run though.

Well yes, the snow is melting but I'll start up again next fall. For now, give me a bit and I'll post snow pics taken this week.

Arly, what was the air temps during that last ski? It is trying to warm up in northern lower, but we had a skiff of snow Weds moring. Today is in the 50's, little wind and lots of sun. Yeah! Jon.

Seems it was in the 40's when those were taken, we did have a cool day this week when the high was like 33 so I can't recall for sure. Over the weekend we will be near 60 here.

Ya, looks like the snow days are numbered.
We used to live in a big snow area of northern New England and late winter/early spring was a wonderful time of the year. You knew spring was coming, winter going and each day would likely be warmer and sunnier than the last. It was a rebirth and we loved spring with snow on the way out.

4 years ago in April, Vanderbilt, MI got dumped on. About 30" worth of snow. Took me 10 hours to snowblow my 3/8 mile drive. Usual time is 2 hours. Had to get off tractor every 10ft or so, and shake the understory trees bent over into the drive. Haven't seen that much snowfall at one time since. Not like what Arly might see. Jon

30" is a big snowfall. My difficulty in northern New England was a deep but light snow on a windy day. By the time you were done plowing, the wind filled everything in again and you had to start over. Often a third time the next day along with more snow.

Somewhere Arly mentioned his annual snowfall and it was a shocker. I'll bet he's seen it all.
