Yeah, ok I understand, but when International Harvester is owned by Volkswagen? That is like Remington Firearms owned by a French perfume company.

There’s just nothing sacred anymore. It’s like the pregnant man BS
It's just a brand name, like Westinghouse.

I sure miss the VW Beetle, the old air cooled ones that went about anywhere and got good fuel mileage and had no heat in the winter.

One of my clients has a Tesla that he commutes about an hour each way to work. He has a 30 amp outlet to charge it when he gets home. Once he gets home, he drives his gasoline powered truck to go everywhere because he wants a full charge on his Tesla for his commute. While working on his house, he drove his truck every single day that I was there after parking his Tesla.

I'm not for or against electric vehicles, but I think the Market should decide on them, and Manufactures should supply a product that people want. Currently, the cost of oil is forcing people to buy vehicles that they wouldn't buy if our government wasn't causing the price of oil to increase.

My cousin also has a Tesla and a Ram 4x4 pickup truck and he drives the RAM more than the Tesla. I believe the Tesla is for show as he's in the software business and the Tesla makes for a good 'woke' show. Nice vehicle, I've driven it more than once but I'd never buy one. Besides, I don't drive all that much and my buggy gets 40 mpg anyway. Glad I bought it when I did, little did I know back then that fuel would cost what it does today. I was at the gas station filling up my buggy and the guy next to me was filling up his gas powered newish GMC pickup truck. I topped of my tank at 35 bucks and he was still at it and I glanced at the pump and he was north of 100 bucks and still pumping (his wallet dry). I asked him what kind of mileage it got and he said, not bad at 22 mpg. I said nothing, replaced my locking fuel cap and went about my business. I find 35 bucks to be excessive. Last year I could fill my buggy for about half that.

Gas prices today (and diesel) are shameful. Only going to get worse too. The issue with fuel is, it directly impacts everything else like food for instance. The more it costs, the more we pay for transportation of the goods and services we need to survive.

It don't actually other than my 40 mpg buggy will be for sale...

You've yet to say what the buggy is; two door Civic from the late 80's early 90's?

I'd already have a fun little econo-box if I could fit in one. When I bought my truck is was an easy $60 to fill, and given how close I stay to home that wasn't bad. It's doubled now, and I'm just thankful I don't need more than a tank a week.

I feel for the folks that purchased diesel vehicles as a daily driver, they must be getting raked over the coals.

I can't see how people don't see this as the social engineering it is.

I wish I had the photo of me jammed into a Ford Festiva years back, it was pretty amusing.

Dad and uncle drove nearly identical Scout II's when I was just learning to drive. (They co-owned an IH dealership). I had many of my first driving experiences in it. Oddly enough, we had a few VWs over the years, too.

I have less of a problem with VW resurrecting the brand. Remember, VW is also Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley and Ducati among others.

I don't even have a problem with an EV model. My issue is making them solely EV. Purely EV vehicles are just a stopgap measure. Once we reach the tipping point, the intelligentsia will finally see that you cannot charge all of the electric vehicles and power everything else with renewable energy. There are too many problems that will not be fixed by wishes and dreams. Imho, fuel cells and hybrids will outlast pure EV as the mainstream vehicles in the next 10-50 years. It would help if more people saw the both-and rather than the either-or.

Haha...I played rugby with a guy (computer engineer) who bought himself a brand new Porsche 911. That lasted less than a month. He had to trade it for a model with more room for the driver. (He was a prop, for those who know the game).

I've never had the chance to squeeze myself into a 911, but there was a gorgeous 300ZX at a local dealer and I just had to try; it was indoors and the end result was one cheek on the ground, leg under the door, the other cheek on the seat and that knee in my nose. At that point I was stuck, the salesman had to help me out between the laughing bouts.

I lust for a Z01 Vette but I doubt I could get out once in. Ingress would not be an issue, exit would most certainly be.

Actually, it's a 14 Ford Focus SE hatchback with a 5 speed. and I can get in and out no issue and the seat still has plenty of rearward adjustment. Average MPG in the summer is 40 with the ac on all the time and winter is 38 because of the winter blend weasel pee that passes for regular unleaded. Has a 2 liter GDI engine in it that makes 240 ponies so it's a sleeper. Only out of the ordinary maintenance I do is I run Seafoam or CRC GDI intake cleaner in the intake every oil change (5K miles) not the recommend 10K change. My buddy has a full size GMC Sierra 4x4 pickup with the big V8 and the Focus stomps it quite handily for acceleration and top end. I can hit 100 plus on an on ramp if I'm inclined, which I'm not.

Has a 140 mph clock in it (same as the RS which I should have bought instead). The RS makes well over 300 ponies with the turbo and came with a 6 speed instead of the 5 speed. Best part is insurance wise, they consider it a compact car, not a rocketship. I screwed up.

Ford no longer produces them. Big push at Fords is the EV vehicles and full size gas or diesel pickup trucks which they are loosing millions on.

Saw a Mustang EV the other day. Stone fugly.

I own a Ford F350 diesel 4x4 pickup truck as well. it spends most of it's time in the garage. it's well in the excess of 130 clams to fill it so it's 100% farm truck and I can write of everything, including the fuel.

Have not had a vehicle payment in 10 years and don't want one either. I do cash only.

The Focus was a solid little car throughout it's production, I especially liked the wagons.

When you described it as a buggy I immediately thought $3k Geo Metro, or equivalent from the era, not something relatively modern lol.

Marketing wise....I thought the VW Thing was the "in" vehicle, but I guess someone at VW saw the success of the Bronco and evidently thought the Scout nameplate would be a better selling competitor.

14 Ford Focus SE hatchback with a 5 speed. ... Average MPG in the summer is 40 with the ac on all the time ... it's a sleeper.
Wish my 2005 Focus Wagon could do that. 28 mpg typical. But most reliable car I've ever owned, Maybe $2k maintenance over 17 years. Twice replaced the 'clockspring' under the steering wheel to clear the airbag warning. An alternator long ago. Just did the brakes for the first time at 145 k miles.
Only out of the ordinary maintenance I do is I run Seafoam or CRC GDI intake cleaner in the intake every oil change (5K miles) not the recommend 10K change.
I think you're wasting your money. I've always done the European Focus recommendation, 10,000 mile oil change interval. I've never added oil. Now at 150,000 miles, it was down only a half quart at the oil change.
I think the PZEV engines are sealed against abrasive dust better than anything previous.

I want to trade this Focus in on a Tesla Y. But wife disagrees :) - "why replace it when it still works the same?".

You just have to work out the process. How do I know? I'm 6-1, 72 years old and have an MG Midget.
