The one pizza place near where I grew up (not a chain)...was a mom & pop store called 'Charlie and Millie's'..people would drive miles for their pizza...great crust, exceptional sauce and the absolute highest quality and freshest toppings...they cut it in squares...
...I always ordered "The Alka-Seltzer Special"...

Now I'm craving good pizza....

The best pizza comes from the mom & pop places...no chain even comes close. There was a mom & pop store near me maybe 30 years ago that made absolutely awesome pizzas. Unfortunately, the owner was a real jerk, couldn't keep help and went out of business.
I still remember working at a pizza joint in high school and making pies.... and yes anchovies were a popular addition
Maybe a regional thing? I don't know anyone who likes them.
Uhhh, I'll pass. I've had poutine a couple times, once was enough. Can't imagine that on a pizza.

My sentiments exactly.

My new favorite topping is bacon and extra provolone cheese......

I could eat a pizza like that every day!

Grew up in Meriden CT just north of New Haven. Early 1960's eating Pepe's and Sally's and the local copy cats. Pepe's opened in 1925. Still awesome.

There's a family owned pizza joint in town, Paesello's, that makes really great pizza. They have been voted Best Pizza in Michiana a couple of times.
Jeez, makes me hungry just thinking about them.
