Starlink

Remember to mount it where you can get to it relatively easily unless you are absolutely positive it won't ever need servicing.

I still remember the picture of David in a tree retrieving an article of value (a drone IIRC).

Hey, I resemble that

With such a beautiful house Dennis, I opt for hiding it off the back? So you don't see it when walking up.

Just make sure to use the obstruction checker tool in the app before you commit to a mounting location. Run it with your phone in the exact physical position you are thinking of mounting the dish. You don't want to find out after the fact that some tree or other object is a blocker that causes your signal to drop occasionally.

And do it when the leaves are on the trees. I went from an outage about every 4-5 minutes with no leaves and to an outage every 40-50 seconds once the leaves were on the trees.

Bought the pipe bracket

Little big, but I like that the dish snaps in like it does the ground base.

Bracket didnt come with lag bolts, so gotta pick those up.

What happens if you are using the "plain vanilla" Starlink router, but have a mix of network devices-- some with an assigned IP, and some using DHCP?

On bootup, everything works fine on my system. Locally plus also remote access from an off-site location. But after a while, remote access stops working. When that stops working, my wired LAN seems fouled up as well. I'm using the Starlink router, ethernet adapter, then into a network switch that connects to various things. No 3rd party router.

Some of my cameras/camera devices want a fixed IP. But if that is buggering the Starlink lan I will have to figure out a workaround. ???

Is it possible you need to bypass SL router?

To be honest, just a guess as my networking skill leaves much to be desired. I know I am not bypassing SL in current setup, but wonder if maybe I should be. My SL feeds into a Ubiquiti switch. If I add my security gateway between SL and switch I don’t get internet.

bad things happen when dhcp servers don't know about static devices. not all check. static devices should be in a separate range, outside of the dhcp scope.

Thank you for the idea. I bypassed the SL router at another installation, and that works great.

But in this case, due to distance issues, I hope to keep the Starlink wifi on. That means no bypass. I'm using the SL 150' cable to a desired wifi location, then going wired, after that, off to my network devices. If I bypass the SL router that wifi signal goes away.

If needed I could pull cable back to that location if I have to lose the Starlink wifi, but I'm hoping to avoid that.
