Who has a real windmill?

Been putting one together, Monitor head and and a pieced together stand from 3 different ones. Square bolts and nuts are a blast especially inside angle irons. Lots of PB Blaster and Kroil.
36' from ground to top of wheel. Not going to be operational as in pumping water, I'll be able to put it in gear for fun only.
Silly things grab my attention when I see them still standing and always wanted one.
(Yes! The Wife thinks I'm nuts)

There's an Aermotor on our family farm that hasn't pumped water since sometime near to when the Rural Electric Association brought in power to run a pump.

My wife and I stayed at The Dutch Mill Inn in Lynden Washington, for a few days during our honeymoon in June 1996. Very nice
rooms.

Many of the old homesteads down south of me still have the windmills standing. Some still spin, many are pinned. I once thought I might like one. That's until I found out how heavy they can be and part availability in this area.

I had enough experience with a windmill, as our primary source of water, from the time I was 10 years old until I was 14 that I've had no desire for one again.

We have a 12' unit on a 27' tower, pump is set at 180'. This keeps a 10,000 gallon storage tank full and has supplied all the water we have needed for 22 years.

There's a big one near me. Has a big tank it filled up and gravity fed the house. Dad and I worked on that thing a few times. The old woman there was my granddaddy's aunt, born in 1883. Her son made movies. My dad worked for him for years building movie theaters through the south. The Legend of Boggy Creek is one you'll probably know.

Almost bought one many years ago. It was about 25-30 ft. Too much wear on it so I passed.

One of my idle fantasies is to hook a windmill to a heat pump and use it as a chiller in the summer and a heater in the winter. However, my county has the lowest average wind speed in the USA. If you want a windmill to work, you better put it on top of a mountain around here.

My friend has had one in service for 25 years pumping all the water he uses. Love to watch it work. Another local windmill is watering the cattle trough.

I’ve been putting a lot of miles on my Trek e bike this last year. Of course there is an e bike forum and very long thread where people post pics of their rides. People post up beautiful pics of mountains, oceans and there are a lot of people from England so castles and other great scenery.

I live in Western Illinois so lots of corn and soybeans so I started posting up barn pictures. So todays barn pic also has a windmill in it. It looks either newer or restored.

I suspect this is an old farmstead but the house just out of the picture to the left was built in the last 30 years. They probably took the old house down and built the new one.
