Ford's ecoboost engines are essentially clean sheet designs fully intended for heavy turbocharging, though. They didn't just slap turbos on to a base V6 and hope it would survive. (note, I did just learn they share the same block as the base duratec 3.5L, evidently plenty strong enough with sufficient cooling capacity).
The pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft are pretty stout (approaching diesel-like, if you will). Piston oil squirters, both port and direct fuel injection, and lots lots more tech.
