I believe that Amazon has contracted with USPS for Sunday package deliveries.

I know what you mean. Our cluster mail boxes are about 1.5 miles away.

I read about that, "they" said to do it before someone else signs up to monitor your mailbox. Apparently thieves do that to monitor mailboxes.
