Self driving cars will get their drivers killed

Having spent hundreds of hours in a farm traveling at 5 - 6 MPH using GPS guidance in a field all by myself and seeing how often signal is lost would make me very nervous about car traveling 55 MPH and losing signal. For farming GPS has helped but it is not a replacement for all functions.

Seen an article published by Bosch stating require minimum of six satellites for guidance for each vehicle. Problem then becomes uploading road change data to all these satellites. I believe figured would be another 10 years or more to improve technology for covering main routes.

If I had a self driving Tesla I'd fill it with mannequins, set GPS for Honolulu and let 'er go!

Driving home from the hospital today, long mountain road. Driving behind a tesla. 40mph speed limit, did 35-40mph. Then it dropped to 35mph, and we were doing 30-35mph. Then it dropped to 25, and we were doing 20-25mph.

Then it went to 35, and we were doing 30-35. I was stuck behind him for miles, on a road that normally is very pleasant to drive 45-60. Nice, long, flowing bends and hills with wonderful scenery. And I was staring at the ass end of a pos tesla in self driving mode.

This is how self driving cars will cause road rage, and get their drivers killed.

I was holding out hope that it was just some old people driving, but then it came to a gradual, but complete stop, like it was stopping at a stop sign, when it saw this. It got confused. It was in the up position, for the record.

So you're saying that the self driving feature won't kill the drivers, but the outraged people behind them will?

And, you're complaining that the people in front of you were not exceeding the speed limit, which legally is the fastest speed you're supposed to go, not the minimum speed you're supposed to go?



I hear you. It's frustrating. I'd like folks to go the speed that I'd like to go, too. When I get stuck behind someone going exactly the speed limit or even a bit less, I get frustrated and just shake my head.

We used to call them Sunday drivers.

I have to ask, did you notice if the driver had a driving cap on?

Yep. Road-rage is a real thing. I always say if you can't drive the speed limit on a regular basis, maybe it's time to hang up the driver's license.

Maybe 70 year old speed limits need to be re-assessed to cope with modern vehicles. Steering and braking technology has come an extremely long way.

A couple of points, when people drive, especially shall we say less skilled drivers, they perceive a certain speed is safe. This varies depending on the person. Most of the time when people speed up, it’s not because they are trying to keep you from passing, it’s probably because the road straightens out and opens up and they feel it’s safe to go faster.

There is a certain speed where I feel the person in front of me is a problem. You can see it in other drivers, they start doing stupid stuff, passing where they shouldn’t, doing wild lane changes and such. At what speed below the limit the people behind them start doing stupid things also varies by person. Someone doing 55 in a 55 is often holding up traffic doing the speed limit but isn’t doing anything wrong. Someone doing 30 in a 55 for more than a couple of miles is a problem.

I see self driving cars all the time. You can tell, by the tilt of their head, down and to the right, that they aren't engaged with the driving experience. Apparently something on the phone is more interesting.

Acting lately lol. People have always been crazy. I understand you're irritated but how much time would you have actually saved driving how you wanted to? Also if you have time to come here and post about how irritated you were maybe your time isn't as important as you think
