Franco Harris, the Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Steelers running back who was known for making a miraculous grab in the AFC Divisional Playoffs against the Oakland Raiders in 1972, has died. He was 72.

Harris’ death came days before the Steelers were set to retire his No. 32 jersey and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception at Acrisure Stadium. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin talked about Harris’ catch on Tuesday when he addressed reporters.

Had heard this...knew he was not doing well...
long ago I was a regular season ticket holder to the Tampa Bay Rowdies (NASL)...One season when they were playing the N.Y. Cosmos (with Pele)...they raffled off an official NASL soccer ball autographed by Pele and Franz Beckenbauer...I won the ball and still have it...unfortunately the Pele signature has faded some...
Got to see him play a second time by driving down to Fort Lauderdale...

This is a bit after death, but I have a relative that later this month will undergo amputation of their toes on one foot (arthritis related). I was trying stay positive for them and forwarded the story of Tom Dempsey as a story to uplift their spirits.

Bummer (April 2020).

That record stood for over 40 years!

Robbie, also known as "Kaptain Robbie Knievel," followed in his dad's footsteps from a young age -- jumping his bike at only 4 years old, and first performing at Evel's show at Madison Square Garden when he was 8.
He went on to perform over 350 jumps in his career, setting world records for 20 of them. One of the most memorable was successfully jumping the fountains at Caesars Palace in 1989 -- a feat his father tried and failed at in the past.

Other death-defying stunts by Robbie included the 30 limousines jump, the Grand Canyon jump and the U.S.S. Intrepid jump, to name a few. His final stunt was in 2011, when he jumped 150 feet above tractor-trailer trucks at the Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella, CA.
Robbie also starred in the short-lived 2005 show, "Knievel's Wild Ride" ... giving viewers a glimpse behind the scenes at how he and his crew gear up for his wild stunts.
He was 60 years old.
RIP
