I have that constant noise going on too, a ringing sound. It is bad enough that I find myself saying, what? quite often.
I was surprised to find out that Aspirin, Aleve and Motrin can cause tinnitus or worsen it.
Also, drugs used to treat Malaria.
I find that walking outside hearing and the noises in nature, birds, rushing water by the creek help with not noticing the ringing sound so much.

At night, when I'm trying to go to sleep, and it's ringing really loud, I try and remember the peaceful sound of falling asleep in the back of my parent's VW bus driving down the highway while laying on a pad they had over the engine compartment. It's a "happy place" for me and I usually fall asleep quite fast after that.

I have a mild case of it, most of the time it's barely noticeable. Guess I'm fortunate given the years of loud music and power tools I've subjected my ears to.

As far as cellphones go, I'm with Max-24-Dean. I also had to be on call for work, one of the best parts of retiring was turning in the company phone! I have no need or desire to be reachable anytime, anyplace.

I like my cell phone for more reasons than I dislike it. I'm on call for work about every 4th week. Other than that, the only people that call me are people that I like. Our kids, in-laws, siblings, friends, etc...

Well I do have a cheapie $15 Tracfone flip phone. 99+% of the time it sits in a drawer. $20 every 3 months to keep it active, minutes just accumulate as I rarely use it.

Hope you don't think I'm crazy with this. I have an old crank start diesel engine that I use to bulk charge my battery bank, it has always given off a pleasing sound to me. I sometimes start it just to get a nap.

One symptom of tinnitus is sensitivity to certain high frequencies. Back in the late '70s when "Solid State" TVs came out they emitted a high pitched squeal... I could tell when I went past somebody's house that they had their TV on. The sound system in one now-defunct department store (Zayres) emitted a high-pitched squeal which would drive me out of the store. One local convenience store chain has an annoying buzzer every time the door opens; it's like taking a sword, putting it in one ear and out the other. I talked to a manager about it years ago and she said "Too bad." I walked out the door and she watched me get into my truck and drive next door to the competition. That was in 2004 and I haven't been back to ANY of that chain except one; for some reason they don't run the buzzer.

Two nights ago on the evening news they did a story about tinnitus and said "And it sounds like this" and played a loud 5500hz noise for a few seconds. I screamed and it about knocked me out of my seat!

Almost exactly the same pitch as what I hear 24/7.
