I think I just saw an EV advertised during the weekend football games where Kevin Bacon was paid spokesman. It claimed an 80% charge in 18 minutes?
I couldn’t believe that. But if true, that is a game changer.

Even if they could 50% charge in 5-10 minutes, it would probably get a lot of folks to make the change.
There are a few vehicles that can do that, conditions have to be perfect and they are over $100K. They have a 350KW charger in them running at 800 volts.

I couldn’t imagine my Ram 5500 4WD with 1500 ft/lb of electric torque! A pulling monster!
Here it is.

The average cost/kWh in the US is 16.1 cents. (Compare electricity rates by state)

The mileage for EVs vary by model, but the worst case for a Tesla model 3 is 4.17 mile/kWh (Tesla Model 3: Efficient On Paper, But Really Depends On The Driver)

So for a 100 mile trip in a Tesla model 3, you'll use 100/4.17=24 kWh of electricity. That will cost you 24 X $0.161 = $3.86

I'm not gonna bother doing the math for gas, I think this is enough to understand that Cow Guy is actually Bull Guy.
Except in the winter. Then you will quarter that mileage .

It's all new and that makes us skeptical I believe as technology continues to improve that most of us will be saying "I would'nt own another ICE".

Yep that’s the one. Thanks.

I think the technology is rapidly gaining and will be able to overcome the charging time obstacles as demonstrated by Hyundai.
Next BIG obstacle is what do people living in clustered areas, like high rises, apartments, etc. do for charging at home?
This is a big step toward eliminating that, since charging is becoming more like fueling (in terms of time spent at “the pump”), but we will have to build hundreds of thousands of charging stations, especially in cities.

The infrastructure investment will be massive. Who will pay for it? Ukraine? lol sorry. :ROFLMAO:

Maybe raze abandoned lots in cities and build massive charging stations on them?
Makes you wonder if this is also an opportunity to upgrade our electrical grid.

I watched Cow Guy Close on RFD TV the other day. Scott had another financial expert on and they said at the current gas and electricity charges, it costs 30 cents more to charge an EV for a 100 mile trip than it does to buy gasoline for it.
I made a spreadsheet to determine the cost of my EV vs cost of my gas vehicles.
Gas would have to get down to $1.15 / gal for it to be a break even given my electrical costs.

In the winter, my EVs lose about 15% vs summer. Some EVs are as bad as 20% so yes, that's an issue. Your assertion of one quarter of normal mileage is obviously incorrect. 80% is the worst case. (EV Range Test Of Various Models Shows Up To 20% Drop In Cold Temps)

So in the winter, it will be $3.86 X 1.2 = $4.63 to go 100 miles.

So let's go ahead & do the math on gas... Assuming you have a very efficient car and you're getting 40MPG, you'll use 2.5 gallons of gas. At the current cost of $3.43/gallon, that's a cost of $8.57.
I'm still never buying one. LOL

I didn't grow up dreaming about driving a toaster. I live for internal combustion. The sound, the feel, the smells.
I can respect this. You're being clear that you're making the decision based on an opinion.

I'm just commenting on this thread when people post stuff that is factually incorrect or they don't bother doing the math. Math doesn't care about our feelings.

But I get it, there's more to life than getting the math right. I heat my house with wood because I enjoy it. If I ever try to claim it's cost effective, I hope somebody calls me out for pretending the facts support me when I'm really just doing what makes me feel good, but I'll still do it.

Very good analogy.

As they say, never say never. They have certainly come a long way with both batteries and electric motors in my lifetime.

That said, they still have a ways to go before I would get one.

I'm guessing Bull Guy is doing something like looking at the fees for a fast charger using a credit card in Hawaii (where electricity is 40 cents/kWh) and then comparing that to average gas prices.

Math doesn't lie, but garbage in/garbage out still applies.

What puzzles me is that everyone who doesn't actually operate an EV is hung up on this notion of charging stations being the bottleneck. Why would I use a charging station when I can just plug in every night and fill the tank while I sleep?
