I'd say 3 right off but the math says 2.999998408

18.84956÷6.28319=2.999998408

Most gets this wrong. In 1982, this question was on an SAT test and none of the 5 answer selections shown were correct.
How many revolutions of the small gear wheel does it take to make a full revolution of the larger gear wheel ?
3 revs.
circumference of 3 = 18.85
circumference of 1 = 6.28

18.85/6.28= 3.0016

No fair you rounded earlier.....

Circumference of small gear is 2 x 3.14=6.28. Circumference of large gear is 6 x 3.14=18.84.

3 revolutions

PiX3 divided by PiX1 = 3

Actually, C= P X diameter; ergo PiX6 divided by PiX2 = 3.

I guess I'll be the 7th one to say 3 revolutions.

What were the 5 multiple choice answers?

The correct answer is 4. That wasn't one of the choices on the original question here:

Here's why.

I’m not sure you worded your original question correctly. I pictured them as gears meshing together, not one being fixed and the other rotating around it. I also have a headache now thinking about it.

Yep. "Gear" was never mentioned in the original problem. We are all gearheads. 🤣
