death of regular cab pickups

I bought a new regular cab long bed Ram 1500 4x4 a year ago for my farm. I intentionally wanted a no frills truck. I have a hemi 4x4 with a tow package. My windows have to be manually rolled up/down and I have to use a key to unlock it. No navigation, no dynamic cruise control or other electronic safety aids. I figure less gadgetry I have the less to break!

Outside of electric, you've about described South Korean pick-up trucks.

I mentioned someplace else that these are indeed available. Most people who buy them however, know what they want and keep them rather than trading in a couple of years.
Many of the people lamenting that they aren’t available seem to buy used… that market of course is driven by what was purchased new.

Ironically when I was looking for used trucks 20 years ago I wanted an extended cab but they weren’t readily found. Now I would like to find a clean 3/4 ton for use around and near my property which would only get about 4000 miles/year… they aren’t out there.

Good for you! Been reading how easy it is to steal any new vehicle with the push-button start system.

I hear ya, but open tailgate and gravel road don't go well together. Most of my truck use is for hauling toys ... my sled stick out in the back like 4 feet it look like its going to fall off. Tailgate open is a must with my dirt bike or quad in the back... with a 8' box I could put my quad in and have room for coolers generator and gas can in the back and keep the tailgate close... with a 6' box I need to put lots of stuff inside or haul a trailer... Then capacity in general like hauling firewood.
Do you mean like this? :D BD1DC22D-4017-4794-8025-AD8593661B9E.jpegI just loaded up. I understand what you are saying, but have gotten used to it over the years. I used to run back and forth to New York in my Toyota with the rears of my ATV on the tailgate, it’s just something which I had to do.

One of the reasons I ended up with an F150 when I was truck shopping was that the 6.5' bed actually measured 6'7" inside, about 3" longer than GM or Dodge. My Yamaha Kodiak fits in the back and I can still shut the tailgate and to me that's important because I drive some pretty rough dirt roads.

What???? manual windows??? No power locks???? No GPS or other nav/driving aids????
I didn't think they could be had like that anymore. I'm not a Dodge truck fan but me likey..... :)
If you ever go to sell it, add the words, rare, collectable and one of a kind. That surely brings the price by half again.
Nice truck man. That'll get the job done.

I like just a bit of creature comforts in my vehicles, my '97 F350 has it perfect for me - power windows/mirrors/locks. The HVAC controls I can operate in the dark keeping my eyes on the road entirely by feel. I detest the precise hvac modern cars have, they may be good at holding a particular temperature but I don't want a particular temperature for long and I end up having to look at buttons or (god forbid) a touchscreen display to change it.

I wouldn't mind a back-up camera, and do appreciate when I get a rental having my phone's nav show up on the screen, but I don't like the big display for anything else.
