Infested with UTVs?

Waiting for the day when one crests the hill and realize we are on the other side taking up the entire road with ag equipment. Won't be pretty. It is bad and will only get worse.

Exactly its public so roads laws should be followed.
In my area UTV's are now allowed on county roads. You have to be plated, carry a valid drivers license, have your vehicle insured, wear a helmet, and drive under 60 kph.

What road laws aren't being followed? Complain to the cops, let them do their jobs.

The only UTV driving in my back woods is me. Trespassers are not welcome. Especially the ah*les thinking it's ok to cut my fences to ride their horses through my property.

I have more issues and complaints about crazy horse people riding their pet horses around crapping on roads and feeling entitled to trespassing and removing fences.

No idea what protection a UTV offers in a crash with a car or pickup truck. Can't be that much.
More than a motorcycle

How would that be any different than someone cresting a hill in a car, or on a motorcycle

There are good and bad in every crowd.

If they are following other traffic laws I dont see the big deal?

Are they noisier than a car....sure most are. But they arent louder than a harley running down the road. Or someones hotrod.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. If a farmer is allowed to run a UTV up and down the road to do "chores".....Why cant anyone? As long as they stay on their side of the road, dont impede traffic, and do it in a respectful manner?

I'm just tired of picking up all the UTV body parts in the woods when they think their ride will fit down an ATV or motorcycle trail. That and moving the trees and crap they piled into the trail trying to get their rig out where they got it stuck in between the trees.
Riding down the county roads is fine but the citidots think they are off roading and we want big gravel berms from donuts in the road.

I agree I don't have problem with ATV or UTV or side by side on the road but if they are driving like if its a racetrack they are not following the laws!

from OPS statement

''I'm talking about all the wanna be rally drivers blasting around on them like, well... closed course rally car events. We used to never see people around our quiet woods, and now sometimes day and sometimes night, it sounds like a racetrack. There have been two separate helicopter ambulance evacs, too. I'm not opposed to racetracks, but those aren't public roads. When my wife and kids and grandkids are driving down the road, and tell me repeatedly they almost got hit... ''

Yes but it sound like it's not the case.

Every nice weekend, we have a group of Harley Riders on the highway. Not a fan of the noise.

A lawyer I know had one. He rode from Middle TN to Knoxville. Took a spill. Never knew why and woke up in the hospital in Knoxville. Another friend lost her son when he crashed due to some gravel spilled on the highway.

Although I don't think UTV accidents are as frequent, a friend's brother was killed riding one on the highway last year or the year before.

Here is WV we can make our UTVs/ATVs street legal and can ride most places on the road (no highways), and if you don't plate them you can only ride on any unlined road. Mostly around me, they are used as transportation between houses to visit or head to trail rides. We have a lot of kids on quads that run about but I can honestly say they obey the local laws and are not doing anything stupid. Just getting around or enjoying a ride on their ATV/SxS.

Now if you go down by the Hatfield McCoy trails I hate to say it is a different story. Many adults think their new Can-Am/RZR/Talon/Etc turbo should be run at 75+mph down the local country roads and trails. We see a lot of crashes down by the trails and 90% are alcohol or speed related. Mostly out of state people have no idea how narrow WV roads are, no clue ATV tires dont hold the road like a low slung car, or how if you get off the road you maybe going over the edge of a mountain to your death. Plus they are here for vacation so they don't ride all that often and then add alcohol, and it is a recipe for disaster.

Really a shame because it gives UTV/ATVs/Etc a bad name and does tick off the locals.
