Tractor
RK24H
Got an RK24H brand new Spring 22’. Lightly used, only for bush hogging and moving brush with the grapple or gravel with the bucket (very light loads). I’ve got 29.3 hours on it.

Issue: Tractor randomly shut off on me while I was driving to hook up the bush hog. Topped off fuel, still wouldn’t start (same fuel in my diesel truck that’s still running). No lights except “oil pressure light” it will turn over but won’t crank . Spoke with the RK mechanic and he suggested I remove the “clear filter tube” and pour it out then clean it with fuel and reattach. I did this, cranked the tractor and it started. About 20 seconds into the start it blew white smoke from the exhaust and didn’t stop so I turned it off… well it kept blowing smoke and more and more and it didn’t shut off. I even pulled the key out and it filled the sky and everywhere around the tractor with white smoke for about 3-5 minutes before it finally stopped.

RK says they don’t know when they can get someone out (they’ll call me again Friday with an update) and I can’t bring it to them. Has anyone had this happen? Nobody I know that has familiarity with tractors has a clue including the mechanic I spoke to on the phone.

I don't have the same tractor but I had a fuel shut off solenoid go bad and shut down 2 out of 4 cylinders... The result was exactly what you describe. Run on (dieseling) and white smoke

Dramatic but am easy fix and no lasting issues. Good luck .

Yeah, RK ended up sending a mobile tech out and took it to my nearest RK which is 1.5 hours away. So maybe they’ll solve it. They obviously couldn’t diagnose it on site and had no clue when I told them over the phone. It smoked pretty bad, to the point you couldn’t see the tractor anymore and it covered 1/3 of my property

Bother them. At the very least, weekly; keep being a pain in their ass.
They said “water in the fuel system” and “oil overflow”.

The tractor has 29hours has been refueled a hand full of times. Tractor was running fine, shut off and gave an oil pressure light. Not even at its 50hour service. Said warranty won’t cover. I call BS and am waiting to hear back.

I wonder if the head gasket let go and dumped water in the oil and perhaps it also made its way into the fuel or injector pump.

They claimed it wasn’t a failure of anything but I find that hard to believe.

The tractor is fueled with the same fuel my diesel truck gets and I’ve not had problems *knock on wood*.

It also only has 29 hours and died before I refueled it. I put fuel in to see if it just wasn’t registering what was in. Still nothing. We added a bit of oil to see if it had a leak, nothing. Now they’re saying it failed bc of water in the fuel system and overflow oil was causing the smoke buttt it died long before any troubleshooting was done.

I'm livid for you.
Yeah, after this experience I’d recommend anyone to stay away from this brand.

They are saying they removed 2 gallons of water from my tank, but the tractor died before I tried refueling it. So they are refusing warranty cover and the mechanic is an a**.

We know we are not allowed to name the offending dealer but you could share your location.

2 Gallons of water from your fuel tank? That seems like a lot.

How much fuel does the tank even hold?

What were you refueling it from, 5-gallon containers, bulk above ground tank, underground tank?

I only refueled when it would get to about a 1/4 tank. Out of a 5 gallon container. Empty 5 gallon containers. What makes no sense is the fuel gauge showed 1/8 of fuel. I refueled it thinking that was the sudden shut off cause and now they’re saying there was 2 gallons of water which blows my mind.

Crazy thing is, they tell me it’s not a faulty fuel tank yet from two different RK mechanics, in 2 different states, I get that they receive a lot of RK tractors with this same issue. Sounds to me like an eventual class-action.

I'd be scratching head too going this just doesn't make sense.

Was the tractor parked outside or inside? Even if it was outside I can't see how 2-gallongs of water could have gotten through the cap even if it was parked under Niagara Falls!

Parked outside, sure. But enough water to fill 2 gallons exactly in the tank? No. Fortunately it was a small bill. But buyer beware on the brand.

So it is repaired and back in service?
