Why some people are too stupid to own a car

Potentially yes. But it's not always so cut and dry. Plus there is arbitration available if the dealer is being sticky.
I had a honda that threw a timing belt at 53k ruining the engine. Dealer said the manual says to change the belt at 50k so the warranty is void. I walked across the street and traded it in on a Toyota.
You never know for sure. My 2013 F150 with the 5.0 broke a valve spring at 61k miles. All my service had been done as scheduled at the dealer. The dealer said that should not have happened and called Ford. Ford covered it. They pulled the head and fixed it for $200. The truck now has 240k miles on it and runs great. Needless to say I still get all my service work done at that dealer.

I am OCD about taking care of my rides and both my vehicles are also immaculate inside and out. I keep a notebook on both cars for all the maintenance. But now I have a new Tacoma and I can already see that beyond general simple maintenance I‘ll be lost. It’s too complex and too electronic for me to work on myself.

Today's automobiles are too complicated and computer controller for the average guy to do much work on. But you can still check and change fluids if you can figure out how to reset the idiot lights. Case in point my 2016 FORD Transit van got a low tire. TPM warning came up on the dash and I checked and filled all tires. The TMP warning refused to go away so I looked in the manual for reset instruction... it read remove the valve stem and all air from the tire then re-inflate to specs. Repeat for all 4 tires.

A short story on fixing modern vehicles. We had a 2005 Chrysler 300c. It started running bad, I thought it was the EGR valve. I had the shop manuals on CD and of course there was about 6 pages of diagnostics for the problem. I was about to take it somewhere when I priced a new EGR valve. It was about $35. On that car it was easy to get at and took me about 30 minutes to change. The scanners often tell you what is wrong and sometimes it’s cheaper to throw parts at it than take it in.

That is just retarded..... Then again I works with a lot of software engineers and that is above their understanding of mechanical engineering.

On this new truck I can change oil, rotate tires, air filter, fuel filter, nothing to grease on the chassis, I can replace belts and hoses, change antifreeze, adjust tire pressure and reset TPM, change fluid in rear end, stuff like that. But beyond that I’m screwed. Although, I could probably watch some YT videos on some other types of repairs.

I avoid dirt roads around here whenever possible. The county does a good job of keeping them scraped and fairly smooth , but they also pull the ditches (of washed or scraped sandy dirt) occasionally. This brings all manner of trash, bottles, and other crap out of the ditches and back onto the road bed.
I've never seen a town dump the stuff-that-resembles-dirt that they clean out of the ditches back in the road. Any town I've lived in will give it to residents for fill if you ask. The state used to as well, but now they take it to some sort of holding area.

Did that fix it?

That would be frustrating. Dodge/ Chrysler you have to just drive it and it will go out after a couple minutes.

GM reset automatically.
