Most likely sharing space due to money and location. Company wise, don't believe either one has to do anything with the other.
Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar in July 2014.

Dollar Tree has absolutely nothing to do with Dollar General ;)

The store my son worked at for a brief time was a "Family Dollar / Dollar Tree" store.

Per your quote

"We have Dollar General on one half of an open store and the other half is Dollar Tree. So someone owns something for them to coexist simultaneously altogether at once" . Perhaps you're getting Family dollar and Dollar General mixed up?

Per your other quote

"Who owns Dollar Tree? Dollar General owns them."

I don't think it's nit picky to say your statement is incorrect. As you stated, Dollar Tree did buy out Family Dollar some time ago.

I will agree way to many "Dollar" in the names, but in either case, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar have nothing to do with Dollar General, and are two separate companies.

Our new place is about 7 miles from the nearest town. We had a Dollar General about 2 miles away and they recently added a Dollar Tree/ Family Dollar down the road from the DG. They are handy when you need something quick.

As to the bad management...I think it goes hand-in-hand with the lack of workers. People who cannot find their bidet with both hands are in charge because they need someone and got what they could for the salary they were paying.

Have your son write a nice worded letter to the corporate office detailing the problems and why he left. It may not solve the short term problem, but at least they will know why they are losing good people...I've heard that most people quit their manager, not their job.

I had a light stroke and heart attack a few years ago. Don't knock it till ya try it. Memory affected the most. For a couple years I couldn't remember names of people I'd known all my life. With them standing there beside me.

As to the bad management, the best way I could put it to my son not to get angry at his manager is because he's dealing with a middle aged man driving 30 minutes to drive to the same place he was hired as an assistant manger because he (my son) only lives 7 minutes away from the store and apparently this manager thought he would make a good "assistant".

I never try to "poo poo" someones position in work, because when I was younger, I've held a lot of "poo poo" positions.

When I was in high school, went to the movies with a good friend and his father. What I remember is the guy at the concession stand was horrible to deal with, and my friends dad telling him that if he can't give 100% at work and love what you do, find another job that you love and will give 100%.

Thought about the letter to management at dollar tree, but at the end of the day, my son loves the car wash (his other job he's been at for some time), gets along great with his manager, and is happy to work 7 days a week when school get's out for $12 vs the assistant managers job at $12.50 an hour for two days work.

I told my son he is blessed. He wants to work because he wants to make money. At this point in his life, he doesn't need to work as hard as he does, but he actually wants to (we're prefer 20 hours a week when in high school, but he has pushed 50 hours during last summer out of school). End of the day, he's a good kid who listens, and my wife and I have to remind ourselves that when you're arguing with your 18 year old high school senior, we could have more issues than arguing about cutting back his working hours.

I feel sorry for the one girl at the dollar tree he worked with. She offered to do the work schedule for the manager, but he refused to let her do it. She's stuck there because she HAS to have the job. Good girl. Remember meeting her when I started this thread.

When in management IMO the whole idea is to surround yourself with better people than you. That said, I guess some people are afraid they'll lose their job to someone better than themselves. Who knows...

And for the record, a VERY long time ago, I was a manager, NOT an assistant manger of a convenience store ;) Even back then, you were just happy to have people who actually would come to work when they were scheduled for work and just doing what they were told.

I'm was just kind of ranting over the situation because I'm scratching my head over it and it sounds like very stupid management at best.

No, I don't jump to conclusions. As long as we straightened things out, I'm good.

Long story short, drove an hour to meet my wife at my MIL's house (they were meeting friends driving from Florida back to Vermont). I didn't eat, my wife would eat after church with everyone (with 5 dogs, you stuck with planning if they stay inside).

Had a hard on for Chipotle (sp?). Don't normally eat there, but they were right off the road going outside my MIL's town after a 50 minute drive.

Pull into the parking lot, place is empty, I'm surprised.

I go in, find out, online orders only for pick up. I used reason, had the girl help me on my phone, ordered online and picked it up (go figure).

Girl was nice, the other guy looked dumbfounded when I asked a question and he asked for her because he didn't know, figure she must be "management".

I have to leave the girl a great review (one boss in NY once told me a one oh ***** will wipe out 100 "attaboy" per customer feedback LOL). I could have gotten very irritated, but she handled me well and walked me through ordering online (went to leave them a $5 tip on a $9 dollar order, and their own system wouldn't allow such a "big tip").

Thing is, they were doing online only on Sunday because they didn't have the help needed to run the store.

I don't know. 40 years ago people claimed there were no jobs to be had, but when I wanted to work, I always did. Today, people claiming there are no workers out there due to various reasons, but I look at my boy today, and I know there are "workers" out there.

Reality is one person can only generate so much income / profit by themselves working at a business. When I was working hourly, never thought of that, just knew I wanted to work and earn money. Show up when you're supposed to, do what you're told to do, and generally you'll keep your job.

WAY off tangent from the original thread, total derailment by the OP.
