good morning all
another nice day, sunshine going up to 77

not sure what I'll get in to today. I know I have to mow the lawn but will wait til later for that.
I might make another trip to local nursery for more flowers. I never tire of that...

Kilroy, could you explain this better to an old boater, the port and starboard part:
this went over my head, what's a jump turn?

last week, I spray-painted the plow ends and undercarriage ends red and green for port/starboard, and wrapped the tread handles with the red&green electrical tape, which helps considerably when trying to figger out jump turns.

Mostly, that is remarkable gas mileage.
I look at my rv and keep thinking 10mpg, 10mpg, 10mpg...

booked a Southern US and Bahamas cruise for February. All by myself with a nice suite and balcony.
Older ship, smaller, 2500 vs 5000 guests, easier for me to get around.
I hope to take the rv down to Florida in January, then have this to look forward to.
one of the cruise stops is Cape Canaveral and I'm going to tour the launch area, something I've never done before.
Stop before is Charleston, where my niece will come get me and will do lunch with her family there.
Have been on a lot of cruises, just go for the water, not the entertainment, and for sure no rock climbing walls.
Royal Caribbean tends to have older folks anyway. A Disney cruise is just not for me.

the real question is when I get back from this cruise, do I want to head to California in the RV, or wait until the Fall.
still keeping my eyes open for someone to go with me.
Lot of this depends upon this Fall when I'm likely to have a major lower back operation. It's hard for me to even push that little
electric mower now for half an hour. Don't think I can put this off any more. When my primary doc read my CT scan and really rolled his eyes, I knew
I couldn't ignore this any longer.

Frits, hope you are feeling better and more limber.

Few years ago I drove up 74 from Chattanooga, stayed at Cherokee. That was nice area, enjoyed the drive.
If you have ever driven up 441 to Gatlinburg, well. . . there are some changes.

seem that the National Park Service has some budgetary shortfalls, so they now have pair permit parking.

They have also installed NO PARKING signage along the sides of the highway (very unsightly) and also put extensive split rail fencing and lines of boulders along the shoulders to prevent parking for free (which I am sure is not cheap). I wonder what happens when you get a flat and cannot pull over?

At the risk of being sent to TBN Timeout, I will merely reference a short discussion here last week about the vast quantities of $$$ that are better spent here rather than elsewhere. Re-referencing Homeless Veterans, who are being kicked out of shelters in NY for unmentionable reasons, too…

Since an excavator operates in 360, yet still has a definable “front” (plow end) and “rear” (drive motor end) it is less confusing to use port & starbord (definitive terms) as opposed to left &right (“Your left or My left?”) which are more user-perspective-defined.

A jump turn is accomplished by placing the arm (stick) slightly beyond verical and lowering the boom until the boom-side track is elevated off the ground, and the track away from the boom is in angled contact with the ground.

simultaneously, the track is advanced in one direction while the house is rotated in the opposite direction, which causes a pivot turn that does not churn up the surface you are on anywhere near as much as when You pivot turn by advancing one track and revering the other. It also keeps dirt/gravel/rocks/debris out of the tracks.

Anyway, by marking the handles and the undercarriage/plow, since I do not have enough practice to make this maneuver instinctively yet, I find it much easier to look and see which track has to be manipulated with which handle depending on which way the ex is oriented and which way it has to Be turned.

Good morning, 48 going to 74 today with clear weather

Grass is long and need to mow a couple of areas today.

The fiduciary for son sent us a check for payback of a loan. Had not expected that.
Daughter is also paying us back for a loan. Other daughter is in trouble not getting hired for another rehab job so back to waitressing. Had a good talk with grand daughter. She had let her grades slip and was in trouble in school. We had spent time talking to her about not going along with looser friends and what that could lead to. So now she is back on honer roll.

Going to the bank and PO this morning then try to get the oil changed on the gear knuckles on the front wheels of the RTV. Need to be jacked up and wheels removed.

Has a good dinner yesterday with duck breast dish.

Drew, jump turns is secret term for mini-ex people. I am sure Kil will explain

Yes I am more limber and can do most things with the bad shoulder except lifting with extended arm and certain positions that hurts. The thing here is that the rotator cuff is permanently weakened and can completely tear if I get careless.

Daughter is planning to set up a thank you party at our place for her friends that helped her recover from hip replacement sometime June
She will plan and set up most things except she wants us to make brisket on the smoker. Not sure how if I can do it the day before and keep it hot. May have to get an electric warming tray to keep it at safe temp. Wood fired smoker needs sttention and I don't want to stay up all night to do this

surprised they didn't call it a Lift Turn...but reducing scrub against ground, makes sense.
is this done usually in muddy ground or all the time?
I always wondered how much damage dirt and rocks do to the tracks and wheels

Good morning, the low temperature was 41 and it is going up to 68°F.
Wind WSW 15 gusting to 25 mph. Zero chance of precipitation.

Saturday after I got done cutting the grass, I found the blackflies 'got' me, twice. That is all it took. This old bod cannot handle blackfly bites/stings or whatever you want to call them.
I got up Sunday full of piss and vinegar at 5 A.M. and promptly went back to bed until noon, then couldn't get motivated. I did get a bungee cord on the boom lock lever that has a tendency to fall down and lock the boom when I don't need it locked.. The spring is too weak and I am too cheap to replace it, so a bungee cord will suffice.

I am going to shoot for today for the tin work on the conveyor, but don't hold your breath. I have other little jobs I am knocking off, too.

I found my asphalt release agent that I stashed away 10 years ago. I suppose they call it an industrial strength degreaser but it works excellent for removing tar, even better than diesel fuel.

At the present moment I think I will get at the conveyor and knock that off my list. The V-plow will wait until Saturday (the guy across the road works nights and is off Friday and Saturday). I don't want to be 'that guy', so I will let him sleep and reschedule the tin beating until Saturday.

We will see what today brings.

Have a safe day all

All the time. Reduces wear and tear on treads and associated parts, and the ground as well.
