Good morning!!!!

The low this morning wasn't to bad 32°, yesterday was partly cloudy and in the mid 40's. Today going to be back in the 40's with a chance of snow this afternoon and over night. It's supposed to be only a few inches of snow with the wind 10-20 mph.

Going to work on the tool box and see if I can get it back together and maybe put tire chains on the side by side.

LS ... Glad everything went well for you.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

RNG, hope you get home soon. Do you get enough rain to catch an emergency supply?

Average annual rainfall here is about 25", all of which falls in the winter months. A 10' x 10' x 40' cistern would hold close to 30,000 gallons, enough to run 3 30 GPM fire hoses for five and a half hours. It would run a water cannon sprinkler system around the house for considerably longer. But runoff from the "roof" over such a cistern would only amount to a couple of feet, and I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be letting rain water in there without the sort of filter system you've developed. That would be a factor if the cistern is plumbed into the fresh water supply for the house. Otherwise, maybe I could just shock it a couple times a year with chlorine and not worry about microbial growth?:confused2:

Good Morning!!!! 56F here in Chico, CA. Considerable cloudiness with occasional rain showers. High 57F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

We're supposed to get an inch overnight, and all the weather guessers are predicting death and destruction from flash flooding in the fire burn scar. The Sheriff'll probably get another week of evacuations out of it...

We're not made of rubber like we used to be, are we? Too easy to break bones or tear cartilage, even in youngsters like Ted. Who I hope is spending the next few days in bed, giving that new knee a fighting chance to make him happy for a long time to come.

Two more evac zones opened up yesterday, but both were only minimally impacted by the Camp Fire to begin with. Lots of rancor developing among the folks in my same boat, at least if the comments on the sheriff's Facebook page are any indication. Some are even starting to call congressmen and threaten lawsuits. Seems like anyone with a lame excuse gets a pass to get in, but homeowners that live there get no grace. A FUBAR situation if there ever was one.

Happy Hump Day folks!

RNG, I'm impressed with your firefighting knowledge and determination. Likely why your house is still standing now...
Having your own full cistern is a wonderful idea.

Two maintenance guys from local community college just left after an hour of taking exercise equipment out of my house, a Bowflex and a Tunturi recumbent bike. I still use my treadmill in the winter but not the other two. I asked for three strong guys and got two old guys...sigh, but...one was head of maintenance, had all his tools, and he took the Bowflex apart for both fit and weight help, and they took that giant thing down the stairs and out the door without a scratch anywhere. Brains over brawn, experience over blunt force. Best part is one of the guys used to be a mechanic at the Massey dealer I use and was a farmer himself. I told him I had a nice artificial xmas tree for him, and he said his wife would love it, so he took a pic of it, but he said he personally would be more interested in seeing what was in my barn.
So I helped the local young men who work out in that community weight room, and apparently they had neither of these pieces of equipment and were really appreciative. I'll get a little write off and everyone goes home happy. And in my case, I can now finish off the second floor instead of having to hide it. Good project for this winter.

Garden club ladies coming to inspect my new sunroom plants and then we are doing lunch.

18°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 35° today. The clouds make a nice canvas for some colorful sunrise painting.

Good luck with the knee, LS. Sounds like you're off to a good start.

David, my skepticism stems from entirely too much experience. The boy is already into us for over $6K from a previous car payment arrangement and a couple of loans, with not a single payment ever made. Of course, a contract is only as good as the willingness to enforce it. So, there's no point making another one for him to just ignore as well. Bottom line is that he'll never truly appreciate anything he hasn't paid for. And, as long as his Mother and grandmother keep bailing him out of the consequences of his poor choices, there's no incentive for him to stop making those choices. He doesn't get his license back until 06 January, so she says he's not getting the vehicle until then. He hasn't even had a driver's license for four years yet (his 20th birthday will be in March), and this will be his 9th vehicle already.
It's a major source of frustration for me.

Randy your thoughts are interesting on this upcoming winter a lot of folklore there my grandmother said the same thing. If you start off with an ice storm that痴 all you will have.

The tale for this winter lies in January痴 outlook and it痴 not clear yet but if I had to guess more of the same cold milder wet rinse repeat

That痴 just some anecdotal evidence I致e seen in my lifetime, I知 not claiming any knowledge of it or ability to predict. I致e noticed that often it seems cold fall is followed by mild winter and cool spring.

46° here this morning about 15° warmer than yesterday morning. Forecast is for high of 72° today and will be warming into high 70's / low 80's next few days.

New tractors, this time of year, make Christmas special regardless of their color. . We upgraded our small tractor to a 55 HP this time last year.

I've got a dead tree to remove today so ...... that will keep both tractors and grapples busy. This tree has been down for a while but, pastures have been too wet to get into, with tractors, for a couple of months.

Hoping all aches and pains heal soon.

LS .... that's good news on your surgery. Just take it easy for a while.

RNG .... hope you get home soon! As a retired road warrior, I can tell you (and Dorothy would agree) There's no place like Home!

Hoping for an excellent day for everyone.

Prayers to all.
