i used to have to remove birds nests from the light fixtures on my front porch, after a few years of removal they stopped trying. And swallows made a nest one year attaching mud to the side of the porch beam.

Good morning! Low was 44°, heading to near 80°. The weather guessers are still predicting heavy rains starting tomorrow and through the weekend..... we'll see....

Did get a sprinkle overnight, but not enough to register in the gauge.

The 3 planters are made and 2 are set in place / filled with dirt. The fruit trees and associated small plants will be in shortly....

The third planter is for the strawberry patch.... that may get set and filled today, but more than likely, tomorrow.
I didn't plan on leaving the pile of gravel for so long....

I also didn't plan that I would block my access with said gravel, to use the tractor to dump the dirt over the back fence to fill the planter.....

Might get some seat time moving the gravel......

Drew, RV trip and a cruise.... then another RV trip... sounds like a great plan! Hope the back feels better.

Mark, glad that you're recovering. Didn't sound like any fun at all!

Kilroy, sounds like a good philosophy..... sometimes better to take a back seat than to stir the pot....
We also try to fly low, but observe carefully....
Hope you can get a gravel delivery as promised.....

Wifey is giving me the "hurry up" eye..... better get moving......

Everyone have a great day!

"microwave has it all over boiling water."

HERESY!!!

I'll have to try it.(y)

Chris
We microwave our chili/lime ear corn 3 minutes. Similar to this but If you don't have a paper bag just cover with a wet paper towel in the microwave chucked or unchucked. Notice it does not need any artery clogging high calorie fatty butter. The lime adds a salty taste.

Warmer today 75 nice bright sun no rain in FC

Fortunately no druggie house in our neighborhood. Antagonizing them is not worth it. You have more to loose

Worked some on planting flowers for wife and got them watered in making her happy

Also cut out a piece of old roof panel and made flashing for the beam from yesterday to protect it from rain. Being exposed to rain is what had weakened it and caused it to sag. Next plan to add a sister beam on the back side. Will add some cleats to it to allow the beam to rest on while screwing it in. And finally added support under the middle and center pole.

Will mow another area and if time more oil change and service work on Kubotas

66°F and .38 inches rain.
Good time at HH yesterday 9 attendees. Neighbor friend who sold his Kubota last year gave me a PTO shaft he had that was too short for his chipper. I was surprised to find it was brand new still in the box. 70cm which I believe I can find a use.

Something different this morning. Off to a neighbor’s across the road for coffee and a pastry. Richard’s wife passed a few months back. He had been her caregiver her last few years. While we had never really been close we’ve probably been to a handful of gathering and would often stop and chat on the road. We did attend wife’s funeral. He is reaching out in attempt to regain some normalcy.

After that and likely a run to PO my pressure washing awaits.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

That’s good he is reaching out.
I worry about my oldest brother, who’s wife died after a long battle with MS. He sits in house on computer, and has been having health issues. He was in ER again recently, doesn’t say why.

I haven’t done a thing today, except hold a cat on my lap.
My wife on other hand, still walked on treadmill with a hurting leg.

Mark- My + thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery.

Drew- I hope that all your travel plans go as planned, and will be sharing your adventures here.

David- Your spread is amazing. Thanks for sharing your pics. I am happy to read that your neighbor is reaching out and happier that you and Sophie accepted.

Wagtail- I am happy to read that the horses get along.

rswyan- I really enjoy those hairy little fish on pizza. Our dog loves the oil mixed into his food. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Kilroy- I am sorry to read about your neighbors; and even sadder to read about your gravel “delivery” challenges.

Ron- I’ve been feeding the birds here for ~45 years and I have never seen a Pileated woodpecker at our feeders. Nice picture; thanks for sharing.

It was a breezy overcast 51ºF for this morning's low temperature. The high level clouds have thinned, but the smoke remains and it has been a filtered sunny day so far with 23mph gusts recorded. It is currently 71ºF and this afternoon's high is predicted to be in the mid70ºF's; not too tough to handle.

It was a productive morning I found an electrician through "Craig's List" who will change the 60A fuses probably this coming Saturday morning. The rider mower fired right up and I mowed the vegetation in front of the house and set a walking path "complex" in the lower field. I really do not care that from above it looks like someone extremely impaired mowed the lower field.

Not as exciting as Ron's Pileated Woodpecker. A newly arrived Catbird just about to enter the avian fray around the suet cage

   / Good morning!!!! #170,131
71F with a mix of sun and clouds @ 12:45. Heading up to around 74F for the day's high temp.

Woman is out back, faithfully weeding ... (y)

On the agenda for today:

Refill mealworm feeder. Need to get to that hopper feeder and the tube feeders as well, as they are now empty .

Need to finish up mowing over on the west side of the house.

Also need to refill the starboard fuel tank on the Cub ... since I emptied it while mowing yesterday.

Should sneak over to the barn and snag the live trap as well. Grab some more chickenwire cages while I'm over there.

See about planting some of the plants. Areas for the blueberry plants and rhubarb roots probably need significant preparation ... so might have to pot those for the time being.

Better odds with the strawberries ... maybe just some light tilling with the Stihl FS 66 brush cutter which still has the cultivator head mounted on it.

The good news is that the soil is pretty friable, thanks to all the compost added last year, and should break up pretty easily.

The bad news is The Woman doesn't know I ordered more strawberry plants and She will probably be fit to be tied once She finds out.

Refund from the feds came in already ... surprised they processed and issued it that quick (about a week ?) Still need to get the RITA return in the mail.

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday ... (y)

Jay,

Yes ... no shortage of firewood, just need to cut and split it. Have plenty of fallen ash that could be harvested as well. Likely more than I will ever use.

Neighbor cut and stacked probably 4 cords, said I was welcome to it if I wanted any.

Little fishies are good ... always have to order them on the side though, Woman can't stand them ... ;)

Jay, I do not see the Pileated Woodpecker or White Tailed Grackles here a lot. I think they are overflow from large park west of me. I am waiting for Bald Eagles from park to show up here.
I hear the Pileated woodpeckers drumming, but rarely see them.

I’ve tried that and it was more laborious than pulling the staples, also makes dealing with the old fabric more troublesome.
I did pull the trigger and ordered the Milwaukee fence stapler and Makita battery adapter though.

Looks like a very handy tool, Paul. I know hammering fence staples not a favorite of mine.

It is sad to see all the dead and dying ash trees around here. I have quite a bit of dried ash stacked and ready to burn. We used to burn <2 cords/season. Nowadays with the mini-splits and high efficiency wood stove We burn +1/4 cord.

We will probably order a white pizza takeout this week and I will load my side of the pizza up with the little fishies and kalamata olives.

MG,

Re: late for planting seeds ?

Largely depends on what seeds one is planting.

Stuff that should have been started indoors, weeks before the last frost ... yeah probably.

OTOH, local weatherman says there is a possibility of frost in the outlying areas (we qualify) this coming Thursday or Friday - which is unusually late for us ... so ... ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

Still have plenty of time for certain things though (beans, peas, squash, pumpkins, etc.)

Hmmm, Zoe have any Boxer in the blood

Was very fortunate when I took Kekoa to school that the teacher was well acquainted with Boxers and their attitude. Staid after class one session for help. He performed the exercise 1 time perfectly and she couldn’t entice him with any of her special treats. She picked them up so not to waste.

Needless to say when test day came, I wasn’t very confident. Of course, he executed flawlessly, even eliciting comments from the tester.

I couldn't wait, had to pull a few. 1/8th (1/2 of one of the 4 rows) pulled and got 15 pounds of the 10 pounds planted. Looking good to get 100 pounds+ from the one raised bed. Light rain started so will pull the rest Thursday.
