Good (Tuesday) morning. Overnight Low of 6C and it's presently 15.2C, high-haze overcast and calm.

Fairly 'standard' day planned and I'll be heading over to the Navy Cadet Unit at 1800... a new, potential, leader has volunteered to be trained up. Once that happens, recruiting will commence. The pandemic knocked the stuffing out of the Unit and it was put into hiatus. I'm going to show the new bloke how to play the Bosun Call (pipe, whistle thingy)... I say 'play' as it really is a musical instrument and takes practice/skill.

Also, during the pandemic (about 18 months ago) the one and only Scout Master was killed in a single car vehicle accident... no one has 'stepped-up' to run that since so Cubs/Scouts has stopped occurring. Basically, other than various sport organisations, there are no "civic" youth organisations available in the 'Shire'.

Sad. But it takes adult volunteers to run these things... and the increasing regulations/qualifications put a huge 'damper' on finding adults willing to help. <sigh>

That's about it, take care all.

It was a good day. I did what I needed to do with the string trimming and drove down the road and bought some plum tomato and basil sets. There were a couple of "unpredicted" rain showers, but I captured a male House Wren singing away as his mate was nest building.

64 and clear @ 21:30, heading down to around 54F for the overnight low.

High today reached 79.7F, was warm but pleasant with a decent breeze out of the north for most of the day.

Another day in the books.

Crescent moon was a shinning sliver in the west sky a bit ago on the way back from TSC and Menards.

Made the rounds with the Water Buffalo this morning after checking the mealworm feeder which was empty (... did not refill it today ... but probably should have ... :( )

The two burning bushes got 2 gallons, along with the ginkgo tree which is showing signs that it's going to sprout even at the top where the deer had browsed it. Need to get it caged.

Plantings from last fall - red maple, Japanese cherry, and tulip tree - all got 4 gallons each. So did the volunteer apple up by Nest Box No. 3, and the Rose of Sharon bush which survived ... probably because it was caged:

IMG_2618 copy.jpg

Not sure on the status of the other ones (RoS) - they may have made it due to being covered in weeds. Will have to see if I can find them when we get to general planting bed clean up, probably after the garden is in.

East peach tree got 4 or 6 gallons (don't recall) and I think the west peach tree got either 6 or 8 - mainly because it has those grape hyacinth bulbs planted around it.

East peach tree is doing very well ... measured the new (green) growth on the main/largest leader and it is over 12" ... not sure, but that may be just so far this year ... if so, then ...

The 4 small oak saplings up along the road each got 2 gallons.

Also watered some of the plants up by the shop which are all covered in weeds but I did see some evidence of growth. Still some more watering needed there.

Hauled recyclables up to the bin at the road, picked up mail, dropped off compostables over at the pile and then dropped off some cardboard up at the shop to use for fire starter or just burn.

Brought a load of stuff back down to the house (Unisaw stuff and the tool bag for electrical wiring)

Emptied the compost/peat moss mix out of the dump cart into some of the grow bags and a couple of 5 gallon buckets for The Woman.

Got new HF sprayer filled with 2 gallons of glyphosate premix I had in the garage.

That took a while - because The Woman was insistent that the mesh strainer would not be sufficient and the solution needed to be strained through cheesecloth ...

I think She easily spent more than an hour looking for the cheesecloth (which might give you some idea of what I deal with on a regular basis ... )

Got better than 50% of the east side of the garden area sprayed with glyphosate. Should be able to finish it all up tomorrow.

... now that we've found the cheesecloth ...

Dinner was ready about the time I finished that, couple of ribs and large helping of Woman's macaroni salad.

After that we got the new HF sprayer refilled by emptying out the rest of the premix in the 2 1/2 gallon premix jug and emptying the old TSC 1 1/2 gallon sprayer which was clogged up and needs cleaned out.

HF sprayer is pretty nice, seems to be decent quality. Greenwood brand I think. Came partially pressurized, doesn't seem to have any leaks, works well ... (y)

Then made run down to TSC and Menards in Massillon after dinner, dropped trash/garbage up @ the road on the way out.

Stopped at Dunkin' on the way down, next door to TSC. Was only going to get a medium iced coffee but Woman said "No ... make it a Large ... I'll have some ..." ... which is now paying for (indigestion)

Picked up six 7' t-posts from TSC, along with two 16' long cattle panels which we somehow managed to cram into the Sprinter.

Swung by Menards after that I picked up the 25 bags of pelletized lime plus 4 bags of bird/critter food.

Had drive home slightly bent forward/over (due to the cattle panels)

Rhododendrons are now in bloom ... at least the ones the deer weren't able to munch the flower buds off of ... ;):

This area (below) will get some attention in the coming days:

IMG_2624 copy.jpg

Two hydrangeas, two different types of hosta, plus some day lilies ... all need to be dug up and transplanted elsewhere.

Time to go see what sort of snack/desert might be available ...

Hope everyone had a good day ... (y)

Good evening all. 55ºF for the start, mostly clear sky, light breeze. Light wind with some moderate gusts, sky became partly cloudy and high temp was 81ºF, HI83ºF. Mowing with new mower to start day. Started to mow back yard, wife let me know she was ready to nap, so moved to front yard. Got it finished mover had good power, front wheel drive not as effective as rear wheel drive, engine had good power, inspite of being behind mowing and grass tall. Grass catching worked well. Stopped for rest and drink water, wife got up from nap had some lunch and went for bike ride. Changed back to mowing clothes and finished yard. Friend came over to raid my hose clamp collection and there went nap. Got a call from former coworker, he is battling leukemia again. Was hopping to see him after Katy trail ride, not sure it will happen now.
Buppies hope the grinding went ok. prayers sent

Well, I didn't get as much accomplished as I had predicted. Got all the slash picked up and dealt with. 3 stumps dug out and placed for a stump fence across the front of her property (Privacy). A fourth stump is almost ready to come out, but its' roots are tangled with two other stumps and an 8" tree about 60' tall. That tree is coming down tomorrow. So far on this job I have burned 3.5 U.S. gallons of fuel in 8.5 hours. I only work about 4 or 5 hours/day. She is going to the nations' capitol (Ottawa) tomorrow and coming back on Thursday evening. So we wont have her hovering over us and getting in the way.
My mosquito/blackfly deterrent is working good.

I still have hay fever, take no drugs for it. Ragweed and goldenrod are bad for me. In fact I am proud to say that I take zero meds, but I will admit to MJ. That is NOT Michael Jackson.:ROFLMAO:
