Recently, I started getting annoying Sirius XM radio promotional ads coming through the audio systems on both my new GM vehicles. It plays every time I start the vehicle. It's loud and annoying with no way to turn it off or even turn the volume down! It appears to be just another aggressive marketing tactic by Sirius.

I complained to the dealer and was told "There're working on it".

There is lots of buzz on the net about it but no viable solution. Anyone here know of a hack to eliminate the problem?

Sirius is annoying. I subscribed for a couple of years but got tired of them bragging about the "no commercial format", while having a commercial after every other song.
They called them "promos" because they were plugging other Sirius stations, yet a commercial by any other name is still a commercial.

If it wasn't for having the lifetime subscription I would have dropped them years ago for this very reason.
When Sirius started they had 14 channels with music and almost no talk.

Sirius is great, I think. Without it (a portable unit permanently mounted in the cab) I'd go completely nuts when mowing for hours.

I suppose it wouldn't be quite as nice to have if there were radio stations available, but still.

As long as I have cell service I can listen to the radio on my phone, running it through the Bluetooth in my pickup. My other beef about Sirius was their lack of variety... You would hear the same songs over and over and over again... often at the exact same time every day.

I've noticed that on drives that are 500 miles or more, but on the other hand, there are probably at least 200 channels I never even tuned to. Some of them might be quite good.

I got really pizzed one night, when all of a sudden someone from Onstar came on my speaker trying to get me to sign up for their service. I Friggin lost it on them. I will never have onstar, or XM again ever.

I recently got offered a free month long subscription to Sirius, so I tried it. I was quickly reminded why I cancelled my subscription to Sirius several years ago. There are no stations that fit my listening desires without throwing stuff I don't care to listen to. That's why I will stick with Spotify and my playlists of music of my own choice. Spotify works when I lose phone service too.

^This!

I finally gave up on SiriusXM and took the time to load all my favorite tunes onto a flash drive - several thousand of them. Plugged the flash drive into the stereo in the Kubota, set the stereo to "Random", and let the system randomly choose songs...songs that I like and none that I don't like. And no DJ chatter and no ads!

I signed up for them when I bought my Ram, it was a promo $16 for 6 months or something. I listed to it for a month or less, IMHO it was a crap service, no variety and nothing I liked. I was forever getting letters in the mail about resigning, phone calls even after telling them to go away which eventually stopped. Still, to this day 3 years later, get a letter wanting me to sign up.

It plays every time I start the vehicle. It's loud and annoying with no way to turn it off or even turn the volume down! It appears to be just another aggressive marketing tactic by Sirius.
Seriously....I'd lose it. Don't know what I'd do but I'd lose it for sure.

If it were me, I'd be all over that dealer like a cheap suit until something got done. IMHO it's BS that they "can't do anything". Maybe they don't want to, but if they could enable that, they can disable it too. Don't blame you for being p/o'ed.

I do the same thing you do with the flash drive. If some songs repeat, well that's OK because they're songs I chose because I like them.

We do have a Sirius/XM (whichever one's in a GM vehicle) subscription on my wife's car...she enjoys the smooth jazz channel (Watercolors), and the subscription is her birthday present each year.

They sent me a big long questionaire about a year after I dropped them, asking what it would take to get me back. Second on my list was no commercials; third was more variety. First and foremost though was no automatic payments. I don't allow them, period. I don't mind paying for something a year in advance, with applicable discount; but I do not allow automatic payments.

I bought a lifetime subscription to XM around 2007 when I bought my new truck. They said it was transferable up to 3 times.

When Sirius took over control, that ended the transfer guarantee.

There is a law suit awaiting trial about it now but it may be a few more years before it is settled.

But the joke's on them, I plan on driving my 2007 gmc for a long time.

Same here, super easy and obvious how to set it up but try and find the way to cancel.

I tried that. Pulling the fuse also disables the nav system and the hands free phone as well as some other dash apps.

I thought about disconnecting the speakers but there are 10 of them. Trying to do it behind the dash would be a nightmare.

If enough customers complain, I'm hoping the dealer will come up with a fix.

Wow, that's infuriating and completely unacceptable. I suppose it's too late to return either of the vehicles?

Believe me, I would if I could.
