Time for the chisel. It was a crap shoot either way.

agreed. So just start to chisel it out, maybe with a vacuum to try and keep debris from falling in?

Maybe but a fluid change will probably remove it. Just try to use the chisel the same way to unscrew it. It may come out in one piece.

Follow up! As a temporary solution for keeping water out, I got a 1 1/8th adjustable drain plug, milled it down lightly and closed it up.

Any suggestions as to where I can get a replacement for the original plug would be greatly appreciated. I just got off the phone with Messick's and an OEM part will run $150. I was hoping for an aftermarket solution.

So can I run the tractor and operate the hydraulics with the adjustable drain plug secured?

You may can put a radiator hose clamp around it real tight. Bump the knot where the screw is in the clamp. Since it is a little chewed around edge, clamp will hold. If you salvage it, get an aluminum or steel replacement made. Rubber freeze plug will work until you get the cap figured out. You may can find a bolt that will work, or make one work.

Thank you for the idea about the rubber drain freeze plug. I used a 1 1/8th shaved slightly to insert and tighten.

My question is can I run the tractor and operate the front loader with the freeze plug.

Hi all.

Don't know if the hydraulic fluid has ever been changed. It must have at one point, but it hasn't been changed in at least a decade.

Trying to get the fill plug unscrewed and it's not happening. I used Kroil on it and it still won't budge.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Take the cover off and then go to town, Hammer,, chisel drill whatever you can throw at it without getting any crud in the sump. Pics are self explanatory.
plug does screw in. Can make a plug out of wood if needed or a fat champagne bottle cork.

Alternately, a big channel locks also work. Just grab the whole bottom of the plug and not the thinner top part of it.

Just realized you got it out, just a day late and a $ short.

Thank you JC!! Never too late for the next person! For a replacement, screw a piece of wood or champagne cork in the hole? Do you think the freezer plug is ok?

What I should do is make a mold and then print the mold in a 3D printer and make plugs for everyone here... except I don't have a 3D printer or a mold. Hmm......
