The freeze plug will work just fine. If you can determine the correct size and thread pitch you should Be able to find an appropriate plug. Also you might find one at a tractor salvage yard.

Thank you JC!! Never too late for the next person! For a replacement, screw a piece of wood or champagne cork in the hole? Do you think the freezer plug is ok?

What I should do is make a mold and then print the mold in a 3D printer and make plugs for everyone here... except I don't have a 3D printer or a mold. Hmm......

Thanks again JC, always a great help.
Howdy,

That freeze plug certainty works great. If you take the cover off then you can cover the bottom of the hole (on the inside ) with card board and tape. I would rub some oil to the tread area and fill the cavity with hot melted glue to get the impression of thread. You can then make a mold with sand and fill it up with liquid rubber or something to make a replica plug. Now, that's a lot of work.

if you get a a piece of wood that is same dia of of the threaded hole. You can then soak it in water to soften the tip and screw it in by pushing it down and rotating the wood. The thread imprint will be transferred to the wood. You can then cut it to size and form it and even paint it black. That option is still too much work so I stick with the plug thingy you have.

Thank you for the idea about the rubber drain freeze plug. I used a 1 1/8th shaved slightly to insert and tighten.

My question is can I run the tractor and operate the front loader with the freeze plug.

Thanks Roustabout!
Yes you can. That original plug was solid. So a freeze plug of the rubber variety will do the same job. If you saved your old one you can get one made at a machine shop. It will be under seven hundred dollars. Just kidding. But it may be cheaper than buying original. Plus it will be made of metal
