Good Morning.
It’s 66 with a high in the 80’s today, no rain, light winds, should be a nice day.
Yesterday it rained until early afternoon. I managed to get everything mowed, a lot wetter than I would have liked, it was a damned if I do, damned if I don’t situation. Earlier I did get 5 coats on the speaker, now I’ve got to let it cure before final assembly.

Grandson helped me mow, including blowing off the Progressive and parking it. He wanted to drive the Lazer home instead of the Carryall, so that’s what we did. Had a quick dinner and then went over to a neighbors house to play some music. A pretty full day.

Today I’ve got to go to Martha’s Vineyard and back and then to Washington, PA to pick up a plane from maintenance. While I’m gone, stuff for the transit connect will arrive according to UPS and FedEx. I’m changing the radio to one with a backup camera and apple car play to make it more user friendly for my wife. Also replacing a headlight assembly and the opposite corner tail light, as both have cracks.

Philly airspace will be restricted due to the president’s visit today, but we will be able to make our flights with little impact.

Wife called VDOT for road maintenance. It was a comedy show. "...this is miles of road to maintain". "we cannot do that..." "who did by your driveway?..." "this road is contracted out..." "who said we maintain it?..." "how did you get a work order in?..." "where is the road you want done?..." ROTFL.
Had something like that week or so ago call highway dept..."tree fallen down blocking Brook Rd."...He ask "why" 🙄

Setting in recliner with kitten watching 3:30am Boo having nap by bird bath,he must have been dreaming etc. his hind legs did some kicking.

Plans for today...to town make couple stops, might give lawn touch up haircut before the rains arrive tomorrow AM,other than that pick and choose day.

Enjoy your day all.

discussion of drips reminds me I have to check the oil pads this morning to locate the leak.
Once I know the area, I want to powerwash the Gravely.
It's been in my friend's barn for last three years, used a little, but never cleaned before he got it.
I have hundreds of pics of this Gravely being restored, one of my most fun projects. Now it looks well used, as it should.
It has its second patina. I took this little tractor down to the frame, many coats of primer and Gravely rattle can red.
Stuff is like twelve bucks a can now.

taking care of a tool that potentially can last forever is a lot of fun. The complete opposite of disposable.

thomas your weather sounds wonderful, pretty sure mold will be growing here from the dampness. Actually I'm getting some great lichens growing on
front stump.

I got red paint all over that garage despite being careful. Had to repaint it white when done.
My first restoration. That little guide wheel tells it all. At least prior owner liked to grease.
And often under all that nasty grease, when you clean it all off, there's shiny paint underneath.

grease outside a bearing sure doesn't accomplish much

I don't have that weight box any more, but it sure worked nicely when I was using the snowblower

Good morning, 69 going to 88 today no rain around. Grass is not growing

Yesterday was office, bill paperwork day and today going to PO to drop off
The farm insurance and car insurances have gone up big time.
The new string trimmer showed up. I really like it, light and works well on the 080 twisted string. Have 095 twisted string in shipping and hopefully it works even better

Ordered a new hair clipper. The old one is not holding charge very well

Wife is sleeping in this morning. Good for her. Cody is watching her because when she gets up he gets his Green Cabbage snack

Blew off the driveway and porch around the house yesterday with the Milwaukee blower. Really changes the look

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

64.4F going to mid 80s, T-storms later.

Running around with mom was good, had a nice lunch, got some odds-n-ends from thrift store, nothing major but useful things like a nice enameled double-boiler for $2 and some railing clamp tikis torch holders.

Found anCraigslist as for an 8x13 chain link dog run for $100, and a large Dogloo for $20, so Harry can be kept contained up at the woodlot while we work 😎

Mrs found a FB as from the gentleman we bought the wad from last year, he is divesting his deceased wife’s doll collection. Mrs intend to gift them to chosen relatives’s children, so morning run to Georgia. Hopefully the weather stays reasonable for the drive - as in, no torrential downpours or excessive winds until we get back home 😁

I hope everyone has a happy healthy safe blessed day!

Good Morning!!!! 74F @ 4:45AM. Sunny. Hot. High 104F. Winds light and variable.

Started yesterday with a phone call to the loan company, asking questions about assuming the loan. After only a few minutes on hold, a very nice lady, who spoke wonderful American English, answered my questions. She couldn't answer detailed questions about my soon-to-be loan, but she did offer to forward a copy of the contract to the current holder, who could then forward it to me. The seller claimed to have asked for one earlier, but it still hadn't appeared. Later in the day I had it on screen and had the complete picture of what the payments will be and how long they will last. And that's all I ever really wanted to know.

Made arrangements for a termite inspection, also on Friday, so hopefully will be able to release contingencies sometime next week. Escrow is supposed to finish on August 11th, but I'm hoping we can close sooner.

Almost finished spraying before the side-by-side overheated again, so switched over to stringing drip tube on the house again. Got the north side done, and started up the fascia on the east and west sides, and stopped when the 8-foot step ladder wouldn't get me high enough. Got maybe 2/3 of the south side done when I ran out of the old tubing. There's a new roll of the stuff in the trailer to finish the job with. But by then it was 5PM and long past time to get in out of the heat.

Today's a travel day. Noticed that the cover on the Camry was covered in dust, so hosed it off after I cleaned out the sprayer. Hopefully it dried overnight, but in those temperatures, there's little doubt it did. All packed up, all I have to do is load it this morning and scoot. After breakfast...

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

67 outside this AM. Heading to 90. Nice morning fog over the pastures. Looks like a walk with the weed whacker is in order today.

Found the multi-meter. It was in the house. I forgot I keep most electronics in the house. The ZTR PTO switch looks good. That must mean the clutch is out. Beyond my limited expertise. It will require getting under the ZTR and torque on belts and whatnot. Not happening. I need to find a dealer to see what they can do and how fast they can turn it around. One thing I don't have here is a flat bed trailer. So pickup and delivery costs come into play too.

I should take the time to hop in the pool, you know, before summer is over. The water looks pristine. That will get the mind clear of all the noise going on and things on the list.

Not to many frogs in the koi-less pond this year. Lots of turtles. Not many turkey sightings this year. And one lone deer is all I see in the evening. Wonder where everyone went?

Wife called VDOT for road maintenance. It was a comedy show. "...this is miles of road to maintain". "we cannot do that..." "who did by your driveway?..." "this road is contracted out..." "who said we maintain it?..." "how did you get a work order in?..." "where is the road you want done?..." ROTFL.

Hope all deal with the weather in a good way. Here, just hazy, hot and humid. Been fortunate not to have the extremes. Be safe in your under takings today. Enjoy the day.
Back when I was commuting, a pothole appeared on a main road — actually more of a washtub-hole than a pot-hole— and after the third time I hit it and almost lost fillings (not to mention the WHAM!!! the vehicle took…) I called our county road department and gave them the exact location and explained how bad it was, and then explained I was probably understating how bad It was, and then made sure I was another lane over.

To my shock and amazement, they had it fixed two days later! On a Friday no less!

Monday, I called th road department back and got the same lady, and said that I had called the previous week about the horrid pothole and she immediately got defensive and loudly stated “WE FIXED IT FRIDAY!!!”

I replied “I know — I am calling to say Thank you. My vehicle thanks you, my kidneys than you, my back fillings thank you. And thank the crew for getting it done so quickly.”

Stunned silence. Then,

”nobody ever thanks us.”

Yes strangely enough Green Cabbage is Cody's favorite snack as long as it is fresh and goes crunch crunch when he bites into the leaves. Keeps his weight down and good supplement to regular dog food

Oh I get that.

I am super easy to deal with. I was watching and listening the whole time. My wife has that "voice" that can get your attention. She and I are very deliberate in how we request service. And what we expect. The people that showed up, not the problem....the process and ownership...BIG problem.

Our neighborhood is having issues with the road. Traffic has increased, ten fold I'd say. Lots of trucks, bikes, ag equipment, and new homeowners. No speed limit posted. Lots of accidents this year so far. Running off the road, head-ons, failure to stop.... it is not pretty. We (the community) wanted a speed limit sign posted. Tried following the process. Got a run around. VDOT people don't even know what the speed limit is on this road. (Hint: Look at your web site). Someone ended up calling the county supervisor. LOL, that added 10 more people into the loop. Someone called the county Sherriff, his office responded there is no problem with the rate of accidents and they enforce - regularly. That added a whole bunch more people into the communications. (Side note: Have never seen a police car on our road enforcing anything, ever, 20 plus years).

We are at the point where I will post my own signage on my property for the road.

It's that bad.

Mower gets picked up Monday for service. I think I am at the point where the Bush-hog can be sold. I need something a little more pasture and lawn oriented. Going from a BrushBull 84 to looking at a 2208 Multi-spindle rotary cutter. This setup I would think offers a little more redundancy and may handle the "lawn" chores better. I don't let our fields go without at least three cuttings a year. The BrushBull is overkill for what we have been doing these past few years.

Shopping is fun!

Good morning, 70 going to 86 and hazy.
Spent some time on pool cleaning and adjusting, all the rain really messed with the water as expected. Clearing out frogs while they were still swimming and trying to get away.
We did not get much rain at all, expecting some tonight, certainly won't need to water for a while.

Did not get a chance to cut up fallen dogwood as work ran late.

Be well,

picked tomatoes and cukes, found no drips under the Gravely, powerwashed it, dried it, and then reoiled.
It's running fine, maybe like a British bike, will always drip a bit?

weeded the garden, was sweating too much to start on pulling out strawberries. Will do that early tomorrow morning.
I came in pretty red faced as it was.

78F and partly/mostly cloudy @ 11:00, HI 79F, DP 68F, HU 68%, AQI 75. Headed up to around 84F for the day's high with thunderstorms developing later this afternoon. Some could be severe with strong gusty winds and hail.

Got most of mowing down here around the house.

Nephew's wife stopped by for a visit with The Woman in the afternoon, brought her a Bluetooth speaker.

Woman created Her own Pandora account and is now jammin' ...

Spotted an adult groundhog over on the west side of the house by the bird feeders ... 🤬

Got another 8 or so peppers planted late last evening just before it got dark. Still about a dozen left to go.

Also got more plants moved out garden area ready to go in the ground. Expanded mono filament fence to cover additional plants.

Woman watered everything in pots out there plus the peppers we planted previously. Peppers really seem to like being in the ground, soil underneath the weed block fabric is very moist.

Spotted a new burrow entrance this morning that had been recently dug out under the aquarium stand planter in the entryway. Woman says there's another out there too ... :(

Agenda for today:

Dole out another week's worth of meds.

Mark out another row with 18" spacing.

Melt the holes for that row.

Get some more plants planted.

Think we are out of cages for the tomato plants we've already planted so may order some more of those.

That's probably plenty since the rains are due in around 15:00.

Hope everyone is having a good Thursday ... (y)

I wonder if most of the heat from your torch is going right out the end without heating the cutter, RS.

You raise a good point.

When heating it I try to hold it pointing down to the ground ... so that the flames come up kissing the bottom edge.

But that's not the most comfortable thing, as I have to hold it up fairly high to avoid melting the fabric.

If you held it close to a rock or brick it might heat up faster and use less propane.

I have a large round piece of steel sheet up in the shop.

Think I'll grab that and give it a try.

Thanks for the input ... (y)

Good luck on the new home acquisition.

Finished another year around the sun yesterday. I had to work yesterday but I'm off today and tomorrow. the week has been special and productive. I got to give a tour to 20+ high school students and their teachers. I showed them some of our labs, and what our engineering students are exposed to. Also gave them the Kyle pep talk, about how important college must be in your life, while you are there. It is expensive to fail out of just 1 class and have to retake it.

It is so hot and dry here. My poor outside cat and chickens just sit in the shade and pant. The breeze feels like a hot oven blowing in your face. I would offer to take about 6" from you folks up in the NE. Temps have been hitting 105-106F with humidity getting down to 30% or lower in the late afternoon.
Interesting day. Sophie had good ophthalmologist appointment. Change in drop regimen, back in 6 weeks.

This bed shopping is nuts. Visited a couple local stores. 1 guy very helpful. Not only were prices crazy, prices for adjustable bases even more so, more than cost of mattress. I told Sophie I’d have to rank mattress shopping right up there with car shopping.

That said, I continued my internet research, now I had better feedback from Sophie. Biggest challenge for us is shipping. Some great choices at Costco, but won’t ship to Hawaii. Appears this is because item actually comes from the manufacturer. Really have to delve into the fine print, but by far the majority just don’t ship here, many exude their ignorance when questioned. One manufacturer was very up front about their willingness - almost $2800 just shipping. Have to keep in mind shipping cost is based on volume/weight, not quality of the product.

But I did get lucky. Nectarsleep.com. Actually saw and experienced their low end offering at one of the local stores. On a whim I accessed their chat feature and linked up with one of the most helpful CS guys ever. Bet I spent half an hour with him. Just as helpful and knowledgeable as the in person guy earlier. Free shipping conus, but to Hawaii via FedEx at $250 per box. Not really unreasonable especially compared to $2800. I would be 4 boxes. Ended up with a locked in shopping cart with some options good for 48 hours. Did significantly more research, learned that I could get a 40% military discount. Emailed the CS guy and my cart was updated with the better discount. More discussion with my supervisor.
Bottomline I was able to get higher quality mattresses ( Split King) and better adjustable bases than quoted at local store for almost $2k less than local store even after shipping and taxes. Pulled trigger. Phew
wow, expensive bed. I'm sleeping on a sleep number and my back loves a very low setting. Right now I'm at 25, but sometimes go up to 35. It looks like a deflated air mattress, but for my back.....it works.
Nice score sodamo

69 high of 94 maybe storms after 9:00 PM

Got all clear for doctor on last two surgeries infection gone. Really tired nerves are rattled must keep on

Prayers for all our Country
We are here to listen and pray for you.

Good Evening riptides,
Well seeing those x-rays opened up a floodgate of memories for me ! Something I usually dont talk about because of everything I went through when I was younger !

In 1966 getting ready to go into high school I was diagnosed with scoliosis ! To this day some of those memories haunt me. I went through an extensive surgical procedure at the time, hours of surgery where my back was opened up and then had a Harrington Rod installed onto my spine. I so distinctly remember the intense pain for many days. Your daughter and your family have gone through so much at this point, that only others that have endured the same can truly relate!

I was determined that I was going to make it through this nightmare and this was not going to be a defining moment in my life that I was not going to recover fully from ! There were many people that told me that I was not going to be able to this or that, and I was determined to prove them dead wrong ! Well as I am closing in on 72 I can tell you that I led a full and productive life ! My wife Kathleen and I raised two boys, put them through college, they are now both married and we now have 4 beautiful grand children !

Just a little about me, I have always been an outdoor person, and while I served an apprenticeship and ultimately became a Master Modelmaker, and made a very good living from it, my heart was always outside ! To this day, I love being out on the back side of my barn splitting wood on a nice fall day ! To this day I still love physical work, and even though I have back pain, I deal with it the best I can. I refuse to sit inside and look out the window !

Looking at those x-rays, makes me wish that I had the medical know how of today back in 1966 !

I do have some misgivings, in that I could not go into the Navy as my father before me had,he served in WW2, and I of course wanted to be like my Pop ! That was of course the Vietnam Era, and Im guessing my mother was relieved when I was rejected at the Induction Center.

I wish your daughter my prayers and encouragement, and that she will persevere , and have a full and productive life !

Have a good evening !
Thank you for sharing. It amazes me what some people overcome.
Power out went out at 2:15 still raining. No idea how much, wife called yesterday afternoon said I had bought house we were in since 2006 without her knowledge forged her name was divorce me, really agitated. All clothes packed when I got home then wanted to go out to eat and said I ordered stuff she did not want to eat. Just another day

Prayers for all silent or spoken out Country

Just trying to show a day in the life of someone with dementia, I have no one else to vent to
Keep venting. I want to encourage you to keep praying WITH your loved ones. Let them know you love them and God daily.
RNG, Local Catchy channel is streaming “Get Smart” shows. Still funny after over 50 years.
I dream of Jeanie or Barbara Feldon for a date....tough mental choices.
Morning to all (well Afternoon);
We only got 3/4" rain last night so I count us as being in the lucky part of the country. We have had plenty in the last week with some road washouts and culverts washed away but not to bad locally, much worse not to far away.
With getting the 3/4" last night I went out after breakfast and cleaned out the water cuts I use to divert water off the driveway.
Used the new little Kioti 2620 instead of the Branson8050, visibility was nicer with the little one especially trying to just clean out the existing water cuts. Found out the hydrostatic with the brake pedal being on the same side as the hydro pedals can be a bit nerve racking when putting the front tire on the edge of the bank with a several foot drop. it's a bit touchy going from forward to reverse heading downhill and being on the edge of dropping a wheel over the edge.
I know exactly what you mean. I have a several foot drop bank along a tributary that if damp, is slippery. My brakes being on the left is what saves me from falling over.
Over 50 years and 3 out buildings to collect in. Still collecting. 🤠
I won't judge. Mea Culpa. George Carlin said, "Why is everyone else's stuff, stuff, and my stuff is sheet?"

No need to apologize for the smoke...not your fault. But the ironic thing is that many trees in Canada and California that companies paid to preserve for carbon offsets (to meet ESG goals) have gone up in smoke during recent wildfires in these overgrown forests.
I heard somewhere that on average, 6 million acres in Canada burns every year.

Daughter is actively checking into where to go next. Talking to the National Security Team, moving up in the office, talking the DOD etc. Will be interesting where she goes next. She got her interim evaluation that looks great. See some snippets below:

She established herself as one of the bureau’s preeminent strategic thinkers during the interim rating period, both through her design and execution of new initiatives and her innovative approaches to outreach and promotion of existing lines of effort. She undertook this work while simultaneously leading a shorthanded Europe team responsible for oversight of Ukraine programming, by far the bureau’s largest allocation of foreign assistance.
She continued to play a key role in showcasing and applying what continues to be the bureau’s landmark effort to hold Russia accountable for atrocities in its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Due in part to her efforts and in recognition of extraordinary innovation, the team won the Department’s annual Data Diplomacy award, based of a nomination justification that she drafted.

She is till on track for the African Safari trip in October together with a group of her friends
It would be great if your daughter's knowledge, could help create an atmosphere of transparency of our givings to Ukraine. I feel more Americans would fully support the situation if they knew that the money sent over there was going to proper channels and not falling into greedy hands. I fully support giving them munitions, and a wee bit of money to help them pay their soldiers for fighting the war. The soldiers often have families to feed and house while they are fighting.

Oh, and huge firewood pile! Do you use all that in a year?
Coffee has finished brewing. 63° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 80° with good chance of Thunderstorms. Got some more trim done on Chicken coop. But had to quit because sun made it too hot to work. Got smoker out and did some pork loins for dinner. Had visitors rest of the day. So nothing else got done. Grocery shopping this morning. Then hope to get grass mowed before storms move in.

Everyone stay well and safe.

Good Morning All.
Great pic Ron. I vote Ribbit, or Croaker.

RNG, hope the house dealings get situated and you have the full clear story. Sounds like you are doing your due diligence. Are you mindfully prepared to just take on the whole banana (2nd loans and such)? It is a nice looking home. Sometimes I daydream about having a postage stamp sized yard, but then neighbors are a critical part of your life and location. Sad to hear so many hear are having neighbor problems. My previous home was bought in a brand new development, so most all the neighbors were facing similar situations of new home, jobs, car payments...life. I formed lifelong friendship bonds with a handful of my neighbors, and my current neighbors are great too.

2009 Traverse a/c sit rep: It is working great. It will freeze you out on a hot day in 10 minutes. Now my MIL is surreptitiously asking to maybe get it back. I might work her a deal for all the work I've put into it.

Electric clutches: check them by wiring 12v directly to them, the magnets should click firmly and fully, and the clutch disc material thickness should be reasonably thick. Lots of time it is the switch or a faulty wiring connection. But sometimes they are just flat out worn out too.

Prayers for our team.

Back from breakfast. Probably won’t go back. An old place, but neither of us cared for the taste of potatoes nor sausage gravy.
Did pick up ham salad that wife ordered. Then got 1/2 bushel red haven peaches from orchard over there, only $5 more than a half peck. And more cherries.
Quick stop at library and home.
Interesting building.
