You have under estimated the "Dumb-Stupid" ones.

What percentage of Americans have an intellectual disability?

What is Intellectual Disability?

Approximately 6.5 million people in the United States have an intellectual disability. Approximately 1 – 3 percent of the global population has an intellectual disability—as many as 200 million people. Intellectual disability is significantly more common in low-income countries—16.41 in every 1000 people.
And intellectual disability is higher where vacination rates are higher.

Everyone was given a brain to be able to think. Some people use that brain and consider their actions and work or play safely. Some of the others, those that should win a Darwin award are either stupid or can't consider what may happen by their dangerous actions. Some have an attitude that if they get hurt they will get one of those as I call them buzzard lawyers (they are always feeding on dead prey) to attempt to win a huge monetary award.

With all the mandated bilingual safety labels that are plastered all over anything that is sold today, there is no reason that anyone should be hurt or killed by any product.

The government can make laws that can protect everyone in every situation, but that does not mean those laws will be obeyed. Government should protect people but not rule them. If you cannot comprehend the dangers of what you are doing or the product you are using then don't!!

As has been said many times before engage brain before any actions. But what do you do if you have no brain? Then you do stupid acts, and get hurt or killed by those stupid acts. (See buzzard lawyer above)

The biggest problem I see is Common Sense isn't common anymore.

Reminds me of a woman driving her motor home down the highway. She set it on cruise and went to the back to make a sandwich. The motor home ran off the highway and crashed. She sued the manufacturer and ----won a new motor home. Why? There was no warning decal on the dash that the seat was to be occupied while cruise control was engaged and the motor home was not self driving!!
I hope the manufacturer didn't put cruise control on the replacement! 🤣
Knowing some people are incapable of learning from thier mistakes.

Years ago most people knew you could not fix stupid. Today those who know this are in the minority. Years ago people would say you know what that dumb A** did he poured gasoline on an open flame and got burned which caused him to die.

Today if the same person did the same thing, everybody starts hollering the government should do something. They need to sue the gas station for selling him the gasoline. They need to sue the can manufacture for being able to sell a can to hold gas that allows one to readily pour gasoline on a open fire. The Government need to step in and regulate can manufactures and enact laws making it unlawful to manufacture a container to hold gasoline that allows someone to readily pour gasoline on a open fire. SO......... Look what we got.
Government regulation of gas cans?
What we got is gas cans that force you to spend more time over the fire to get the gas on it, putting more "Darwin Award" people at risk.🤣

It's in the Bill of Rights... or is it in the Declaration of Independence?
I know it's somewhere that the government exists to keep us safe from doing stupid things.
Maybe somebody can Google it and share the link...?

Hey if someone is that stupid an intent on committing suicide I say profit from it and sell tickets. One could probably get $100.00 or more for a ticket.

I think it is similar to those kids we grew up with who had a "sheltered life" and so were unprepared for the real world. They were fairly few in our generation but it seems to be the norm for the current generation. I say that partly because of the way people are surprised and impressed when they come across a young person who seems to "get it" as being extraordinary rather than just brighter than average.
So true… my coworker has a 22 year old son and she really wanted me to hire him to turn over apartments so he could learn… I asked what can he do?

Anyway, she kept asking so I said OK as I had a two bedroom apartment to do…

I thought we were all set for Saturday and no show…

Call and she says they talked about it and decided painting latex paint was too dangerous in regards to chemical exposure…

The problem is really not stupidity, its a lack of knowledge or basic understanding of physics.
I would do everything I could to try to get someone else to understand the consequences of using gas to enhance the burn rate of a fire.

At around 10 years of age I new that gasoline vapors were flammable and dangerous and that gas was only to go in fuel tanks. Farm safety was a family discussion around the dinner table.
When I went through high school, If you took Algebra then Physics and Chemistry where required classes. It was just the way it was!!
This is not the case anymore as neither class is required to graduate. It was cut out of requirements in the 70's from what I was told.

See, beyond the ridiculous worry about stuff that current society instills in folks without much real-world experience, the bigger problem with folks today is that lack of responsibility to uphold their end of commitments. At a minimum this person should have called you as soon as they made the decision to not take the job and let you know. I think jobs are just too easy to come by today and companies are willing to disregard egregious actions like this.

You dodged a bullet there...

You can't say much about the parent in this case also, if they talked about and decides that latex paint was to hazardous neither one of them had the courtesy to call, just a no show.
