My brother got a government subsidy to run rigid white PVC in ground to his pastures. This causes me to think it met code for that purpose.

Building codes stop 5' outside the building line. OK, your septic needs to be 10' outside the building line.

Hydrants should not be connected to PVC. The stress of valve operations will crack the PVC or joint. I just dug one out at my place. The last 5' minimum should run in rigid metal, like copper.

A 5ft stick would be even better but I always use these fittings to join pvc to hydrants or meters and I’ve never had a problem with them.

Just sitting here thinking that I put a metal 90 and lead in for stability. I did pour a 2' circle of concrete around the hydrant. That I can see, the rest I'm not so sure of anymore. . .

You have my sympathies. There are more than a few projects around here that I have that I wish I had taken a few more photos of at the time.

I don’t know why people hold copper in such high regards. I’d rather have pex any day. The upfront cost is much lower, if it does leak it’s a lot easier to fix, it’s more freeze resistant and the copper gets leaks from corrosion all the time. Also unskilled plumbers will connect copper to galvanized fittings that causes corrosion. Pex is hard to screw up.

The previous owner here didn't. All copper in the crawl space, and all risers galvanized. Let's just say perhaps plumbing wasn't an expertise.
