If I was Deere or any other company like Apple, I would fight like mad NOT to give hackers all the code in your systems.

I do not pretend to understand hacking and what that has to do with being able to service your own tractor equipment………

What I do understand is a business is trying to make a buck on the back of Joe Blow America without a concern for Joe Blow America‘s bottom line

This is what some hackers are doing to companies like Deere.

Def Con hacker shows John Deere’s tractors can run Doom
Well, I don’t know……
But if you read down into the article, it doesn’t necessarily mean, it’s all bad, because it seems to show that it allows the farmers, to be able to work on their tractors….

Also, if the big manufacturers would simplify some of this god-awful automation on these tractors, maybe they wouldn’t have these issues

My neighbor has Deere tractors that can be programmed to work a field (by satellite?). It is very helpful on large fields mapping the path and speed. How much would a competitor pay to know how Deere did this? If you were Deere, would you want to protect this system from a bunch of hackers?

One of the long standing myths JD has been hiding behind on "Right to Repair", was EPA/emissions issues...

EPA says "Nope, have one right to your sack".

Couldn't happen to a nicer company.
Problem is, a tractor is not a "motor vehicle". Motor vehicle is a car, not a tractor.

I dunno, do not pretend to know any and all of the answers but GPS programming doesn’t seem to be top secret code writing any more!?!?!

But…. But…. But…..

Deere isn’t the only corporation that is using this tech, but I have not heard the other companies being blamed for locking out their customers….
