Not really but it does decrease clutch plate wear.

I drove manual transmission cars for 30 years, until they simply became unavailable on the model types I was buying, and also usually downshifted to slow to a stop. I did it out of a combination of habit and fun, but one lingering thought always in the back of my mind was how much more work it is to replace a worm clutch versus worn brakes.

I always kept it in a gear that would work if I had to dump the clutch and accelerate quickly. On at least one occasion it saved me from having a bike self load into the bed of the truck… the hard way.

Beautiful cruisin day today here. No humidity.
I just returned home from a morning of work. On the way, I pass about 200 Harleys in a convoy.
NONE appeared to be under 60.
I was checking out the women and most were tatts & rolls. The men were definitely competing with the women on boob size. Many had bigger man ***** than the women.

The road is very narrow and unfriendly for towing mirrors. Yet many rode side by side just about clipping my inside mirror with their brain buckets.

Side by side is illegal in Ohio, and I agree with you, it's not a great practice.

How does that song go...'Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide... Saw a YT vid the other day where a lane splitter got hammered by an opening door in a standstill traffic jam. He didn't fare very well and most likely gets to pay for the damage to the car as well.

I”ll take the occasional loud motorcycle over all the boys who ‘deleted’ the mufflers on their pickups. I got over that loud phase by age 20 or so.

The thing about pickups is that it’s louder behind you than in the cab.


Come to think of it I had a truck stereo like that once… I didn’t realize how loud it was until I was listening to it putting up firewood one night. As I stepped out around the open door I realized it was echoing off the barn across the street.

Come to think of it I had a truck stereo like that once… I didn’t realize how loud it was until I was listening to it putting up firewood one night. As I stepped out around the open door I realized it was echoing off the barn across the street.

One thing I love about newer vehicles? My deaf self can turn my radio up a good bit without broadcasting it to everyone around; sound deadening had some so far.

Dang near pasted a gal on a bicycle this afternoon in town I was going the speed limit or a bit under (25) and she rode directly in front of me, never looked. Surprised she didn't run into my car actually.

I think at least one year of physics class should be mandatory before anyone is allowed to ride a bicycle on a public road.

Key focus on:

1. No 2 objects can occupy the same space at the same time.

1a. If 2 objects attempt to break rule 1, the smaller, lighter and squishier object is going to lose.

A friend said all you need is a DOT sticker on your helmet to be legal. So he used those skull caps with a DOT sticker. He is dead now. Head injury, running an ATV in the woods, with that same stupid helmet.

I'd add to that conservation of momentum (not energy) in inelastic collisions. There's a predictable result when a 5000 lb. pickup truck collides with a 200 lb. cyclist.
