I know about flooding. I got flooded out when I lived in Joshua Tree 20 years ago. A friend was watching the Weather Channel and the announcer stated “this is the largest Purple cell I’ve ever seen”.. It was right over my house. We were just below a small mountain range which funneled the water my way.

When I bought my current property,I reviewed all the typos to be sure we were flood proof. My 26 acres is dead flat with a maximum of 2% in any direction.

May need to get the lawn mower out.

I would really like to be at some safe spot, camping at Valley of Fire State Park, north east of Las Vegas, when all this rain rolls in. Water is going to run there, and My Bet it will be spectacular.

Assuming the storm path and rain amounts projected hold true.

I'd rather be on Mt. Charleston.

Totally different than anything we have here on the east coast. I've done a few western road trips, and enjoyed visiting the desert country (mostly Nevada & Utah), but not sure I'd want to live there.

Likewise here in New England. 2 days in a row without some rainfall has been rare this year. And humid!!! 😥And to think 2 or 3 summers ago we were in a drought...many peoples' wells going dry. Mine was down to the point it was only an inch or so from where the pipe is. Took advantage of it being so low to de-silt it.
The wife keeps a garden journal, This summer's rainfall for Jully and August is almost the same as the 2020 summer. 14 inches in July, and 6 so far August.

Central Vermont is only just recovering from extensive flooding only 4 weeks ago.

No Forests are burning here.

It’s coming but just light rain so far.

Not my pic, but we had cloud to cloud lighting every 1 to 3 seconds for an hour.

Is it dying out?

Lull in the storm right now. Time to wander out and feed the barn cats. We got 1/3-1/2 inch since 3AM. And inch or more due later today. Nice - we need it.
I lived in Joshua Tree for 20 yrs. Finally escaped to a milder Mediterranean climate just 90 miles away. I have a lawn (y)
Most rain I ever saw was 10" in 1 hour in Joshua Tree. People died in the ensuing floods. Not certain of the year. I'm thinking late 80s.
