Thoughts on Chevy Colorado or Ford Ranger

Personally I dislike suicide doors because how difficult it was to load a shopping cart full of items in the back area when parallel parked beside another vehicle with just enough space to fit the cart between. Which was every time I went to the grocery store.
Ford discontinued the suicide doors on the ranger. If they are not available when we need a new truck, we'll look at other makes. We love them for dogs and groceries.

Frontier and Tacoma

Those are also mid-size; the Tacoma since 2005, and the Frontier since 2004. Though you could argue the Nissan didn't really step up to mid-size until 2022 when the Frontier separated from the Navarro.

Was there ANY vehicle built in the 70s or before that wasn't a total rustbucket? None that I can think of.
My first truck was a '70 IH pickup. Rugged truck but when I bought it even the patches had rusted out...it was 7 years old at the time.

I'm under the impression that IH was particularly bad due to either where they sourced the steel, or how it stored; I don't recall specifically, having absorbed the information passively from the rambling of a friend with a thing for IH trucks.

That said, I'm pretty sure plastic rusted in the 70's; thanks Carter. 🤣

now...Maverick, Santa Cruz....future...Montana, Stout, Baja...

Articles like this using poor CGI to render vehicles by hodgepodge-ing existing designs, combined with speculation about what the manufacturers' could or should do, they drive me nuts. At least the old magazines used to have sketch artists; instead we get a Kia Mojave front clip grafted onto a Ranger.

Hell the next article uses a photo of the forthcoming Land Cruiser in a piece about the Stout; the big hint that that the Stout is coming back? The registration of the trademark. Certainly auto manufacturers don't regularly hold onto unused trademarked names; both for potential future use, but also to sit on it so that no one else can use it.

Having to wade through mindless bundles of crap to access a few bits of truth, it's in all aspects of life now.

At least they included a few examples on the world market that actually exist, but there is a long history of wonderful vehicles that never made their way here no matter how perfect they are.

Before production vehicles are released, they are all concept vehicles and pre production vehicles. Even ones made by the manufacturers. They have been doing it for eons.

Of course; I've followed the industry since I was a child. It's just a lot easier to pull things out of your arse, as a third party, and claim some sort of basis behind it. It's gotten well beyond speculation, and is teetering on the edge of make-believe.

This long article would have been a paragraph or three, with one hand hand sketched photo in Motor Trend or Automobile.

Instead they've made a feature film out of a short story, filling the source material in with whatever fits.

It seems some people are so very fragile and easily offended. ❄️

From the article:

Updated on August 7, 2023: Over the decades, numerous compact pickups have come and gone that have gained a place in our hearts, so we have decided to refresh and update this list. That means instead of burying this one into the endless articles lost on the web, the original three trucks can be found below, and a few new ones to help open your mind and expand your knowledge.

It's almost like adding a level of truth to the lie makes it all the more believable.

Now, I don't think they're nefarious in any way, they're just looking for clicks. It just doesn't jive well with being the internets most trusted automotive news source, or whatever drivel was in their 'about us' section.

You've got a few real, N.A. market vehicles; added to that are some global market vehicles that 'could' or 'should' come to the United States, and then just for fun they tossed in further speculation from brands that haven't even confirmed their intentions.

As mentioned before, they added a Kia Mojave clip to a Ranger; that doesn't give the reader any insight, but provides nothing more than a source of entertainment for the sake of... clicks.

I'm sorry I don't like your link, you don't need to defend it; my problems with TopSpeed are almost as old as the website.
