Some of those stumps would have left serious craters that needed to be filled. And didn't have access to a machine big enough to handle the monsters. If I contracted it out, it would have been around $10k. I did it myself for around $2k with equipment rentals.Oh man. I know I'm way too late to be helpful now, but I'm curious why you chose to chainsaw and then stump-grind, instead of using that excavator to simply fell the trees, stump and all? For any tree under a foot, its quite easy to just dig out the stump and push the whole tree over in a controlled fashion. Then you cut the stump off with the whole tree up out of the ground. Bigger trees, probably too dicey eh.
I burned through around 25 stumps an hour with the stump grinder. So the bulk were done in about 4 hours. The rest of the time was taking out the monster stumps.
I was also told to not disturb where the septic was going.
